IUI

What day of the cycle do they start 'testing' you before you get your first IUI? I haven't told my RE that I plan to do IUI yet, and today is CD2. When should I go in for my first check-up if i want the IUI this cycle?

Re: IUI

I went in on day 3 (3rd day of your period) and they started blood work and sonograms.
They start on that day to see if you have any cysts on your ovaries.
Then from there they will call yoy and let you know when to come in next.
Are you taking any meds??

Re: IUI

Usually you go in on cycle day 3. The do a u/s and fsh/estrodoil bloodtest, and even a beta sometimes to make sure you aren't pregnant. They do the u/s to see if you have any cysts and if you can proceed with the cycle. They also sometimes prescribe a med on cd3.....if you are going to be on a medicated cycle (clomid or femara or injections). Then I return cd 10 for a baseline sonogram, where they see how the follies are growing and when the suspect you will O. I O close to cd 10, so I come back every day, for bw and u/s....until the bw, shows LH surging.

Some women ovulate later, and they may have you come in cd 13 for a baseline sonogram.

Re: IUI

No meds; really wasn't expecting to have to go in so early. I guess I'll call today to see what she says.

Re: IUI

I told my RE that I'm regular, but I guess I'm really not. This month, AF only lasted 19 days; last month I had a 34 day cycle, the month before that, it was 26, etc. See, it's always between 19 - 38, so I thought that was somewhat regular, but is it not? Should I be taking something to regulate?

Also, my LP is never the same number of days and i know it's supposed to be. I track my ovulation with a monitor and the number of days from the day I ovulate until the day I get AF is always different, and usually very short. I thought if I had a LP defect, it would show up on my hormone tests though. My sister said my LH levels (or something) would be off. Chat Icon

Re: IUI

I was pretty regular too, but after all the iui's I had shorter cycles.
Before I went to the RE, my gyno gave me clomid because my cycles were irregular. They regulated me, but hated the side effects.
When I went to my RE he gave me Femara, no side effects.
Did they say that they were going to give you anything to help you produce more follies??

Re: IUI

I just got off the phone with RSONY. They want me to start Clomid tomorrow. I told them that I had heard good things about Femara and may wish to go on that instead and they said I can talk all of that over with the doctor tomorrow bc there are differences b/t the two drugs. I was actually hoping to do at least one cycle w/o drugs, but they don't want me to do that.

I'm very nervous b/c it's almost time for my homestudy for adoption and I'm worried that resuming fertility treatments will hurt my chances of getting a referral. I truly want both. I know for a fact that if I do get pg, the adoption will be postponed, which is fine, but I'm just worried that they're going to think that by my continuing with IUI, I'm not 100% devoted to adoption, which I totally am.

I never thought getting pg would be an option. Who would have thought that my blocked tubes was a false diagnosis.

Chat Icon Thanks for letting me vent, and for all of your great advice.

Good luck. There are so many babies that need homes, I cant imagine they would give you trouble for wanting both.

Re: IUI

You would think adopting a baby is easy, but they're really, really strict! You'd be surprised.

Just got back from RSONY. It was packed. I got my U/S and everything looks good. Got blood taken and was given an Rx for 50mg of Clomid. She said she didn't want to put me on Femara until I at least tried Clomid. She also said she would have put me on 100mg if I had been on Clomid in the past or if I was older, but she's going to try me this cycle on 50mg based on my history. I go back on Friday (CD9) for my follow up U/S. I'll probably wind up getting my IUI on Thanksgiving knowing me (they're open, thank god, but I'm hosting thanksgiving this year!) Chat Icon

Thanks for all of your help and luck, ladies!

Re: IUI

I normally see Dr. Cain but she's not in on Saturdays. I go to the StonyBrook location. My U/S, bloodwork, and Rx were done by RNs.

I was staring at everyone wondering if someone was from LIF. I switched my 8:15 appt to 8:45 though so we may have missed each other. DH couldn't wake up. Chat Icon
