Caster Oil

I went to the doc last week 38wks. cervics was still very thick. I am 39 weeks now and i dont' go back to the doc until the 18th. Has anyone tried caster oil. Does anyone know it that helps your body get effaced so I can have this baby??

I wouldn't take it either - at least without speaking to your doctor. You can be come effaced on your own very quickly. It's also a natural process that I wouldn't try to rush.

i would advise against it. it can cause you to have diarrhea, and the baby to pass meconium in the amniotic fluid. i had a friend drink castor oil, and this exact scenario happened and she had to have an emergency c-section.

i agree. plus, all danger to the baby aside - i wouldn't want to risk having bad diarrhea and labor at the same time! that's more awful than i could imagine. it's not worth it, you will go soon enough, although i know it's hard to wait right now.

i wouldn't place too much weight on the fact that your cervix hasn't changed yet - many women go all at once!

hang in there!!!

Re: Caster Oil

The doula who is teaching my childbirth class mentioned castor oil and said it only works to bring on labor if you are already fully effaced, otherwise you will just be sick and miserable.

Don't do it, my friend did it, she spent a couple of days sitting on the toilet, but it didn't help bring on labor and it made her miserable

I bought it but it looked so disgusting I just could not do it. However, I heard that eating pinnapple can help so I just ate a bunch of it. I know he will come when he is ready i am just soooo uncompfortable.
