need nyc- village recommendations
my BIL is showing his oot gf around nyc the 18th of jan... and she loves artsy stuff and coffee houses.. so i said the villege (east and greenwrich (sp?)) would be great with all the art studios, coffee places, old vinyl music stores etc.. but im lost for specifics (my time is usually spent at bars down there)..
so can you please recommend a great rest. (no cuisine in particular) some art places, and a coffee shop or two for me to pass on to him

I don't know if they would be into going to a cuban restaurant, but there is this tiny place on Cornelia St. called "Little Havana" that has the BEST cuban food I have ever had...
That would be fun and it's in a GREAT neighborhood for just walking around...

There's a great coffee house/restaurant on 2nd and St. Marks Place... but the name escapes me! They have a GREAT brunch menu. It's actually on the south side of St. Marks maybe 2 or 3 shops in on the right hand side of the street. I know, not much help!

Unfortnuatley, a lot of the old vinyl stores are gone, but some great streets to stroll down are Bleeker (on the west side) and Astor Place/8th Street on the East side. Rebel Rebel is on Bleeker. Vinyl Mania is on Carmine Street in Greenwich Village.
For restaurants, I would stroll down Hudson Street. There are so many great places. I love Philip Marie, but there are so many other places I would love to try.
The coffeehouse is a dying breed in NYC. There used to be some places I would wander into on McDougal Street.
The art studios have pretty much left the village. There are some in Soho on West Broadway, but most of them are in Chelsea.

Tell him to stick to the East village and SoHo. off Broadway, they wil run into tons of mini-art galleries (I remember going to one where the subject the artists displays were nekkid hermaphrodites!
