steakhouse recommendations in NYC
I am looking for a steak house to bring DH to for his bday - any recommendations? Peter Lugers? Mortons? Others? Which ones are the best, in your opinion?

DH LOVES LOVES LOVES Peter Luger's in Brooklyn.
He also likes this place by my office. I think its on 50 or 51st between Madison and Park. I believe it is called Maloney & Porcelli

My DH is a big steak fanatic and we have been to most of the big steakhouses - Mortons, Peter Lugers, etc.
Our favorite on LI is Burton and Doyle on Northern Blvd in Great Neck - great atmosphere, great food. IMO much better than the Peter Lugers in Great Neck - I felt like we were eating in a barn and the waiters kept bumping into my chair all night 
In the city we love Keane's - it's right by Penn Station and it is the oldest steakhouse in the city - the food is great and the atmosphere is nice too.
I like steak, but definitely not as much as DH, so atmosphere is important to me as well - I want to enjoy the meal too - especially when it is that expensive.
I feel like Peter Luger's has an attitude about them - just because they are Peter Lugers - to be honest, I don't get it. Oh, and if you do plan to go there, be prepared to pay cash - they don't take any credit cards but their own

I love Luger's, but am partial to the one in Brooklyn. Personally, I have never gotten an attitude from the waiter's there, I've always had good experiences.
But, as a previous poster said - no credit, only cash! Expect to pay about $125 to $175 for dinner for two.

Bobby vans is awesome! we just went a few wks ago
the original one was in the hamptons and now there , the are 4 in NYC, the original one in nyc is in the Helmsley building
the best!!!

I 2nd Bobby Van's
DH loves Bobby Van's - his bachelor party started there and they had a great time. We also love Cite - although the steaks are good (not AMAZING)...we love the all you can drink wine dinner!

Peter Lugers is always good, but other great steakhouse in the city to check out are:
Quality Meats (yes sounds like a butcher, but has awesome food)
Del Fresco's
Wolfgang's
Angelo & Maxie's
It really just depends where in the city you want to be because there are quite a few good steakhouses!

Del Friscos (and they have these awesome onion rings)
Maloney & Porcelli-also great fresh seafood and great wine list
Sparks-one of my all time favs but definitely a boys club
Smith & Wollensky-haven't been in a while
The Palm (westside) Ask for the cajun lollipops as an appetizer (first cut baby lamb chops) med rare and don't get them butterflied. I go here more often than the rest. If you're spending moolah get the Cakebread Cab.

My SILs gave DH and I a gift certificate to The Old Homested Steakhouse it looks great. We will probably go for our anniversary before the new baby comes.

21 club has steak and many other things- it used to be an old speakeasy joint. for the cost of steaks in these other places you might as well take him to the 21 club- it will be the same price.
ties and jackets are required for gentelmen at dinner.

We have been to most of the steak houses in NYC and I have to say my favorites are Peter Lugar's (Brooklyn) and the Old Homestead.
On Long Island - definately Burton & Doyle, we went there again on Christmas Eve Eve and it was fantastic.
