It's official...
I am getting a student teacher either next week or the week after. 2 days a week, 4 hours a day. He will be taking over my morning classes.
So since this is completely new to me. What do I allow this guy to do/not do? Does he definitely do all the plans now? Do I just tell him what I want to cover?
Any advice would be greatful especially from a secondary teacher! (Only since i know its probably a little different than elementary!)
TIA

Re: It's official...
I have a student teacher now and I had her observe for a couple of days and she started taking over one class today and tomorrow she is taking over another. I sit in the back of the room and take notes on her lesson both good and bad. Right now we are planning our lessons together, next week she will have to plan her own lessons. I teach middle school.
If you have any questions please let me know.

ah I am sure it will feel strange I have the daughter of one of the other LOTE teachers as my student teacher AND I have knonw her since she was 12. It's weird- definitely a different feeling but if you were in the business world there might be times that you would be the supervisor above someone who was older than you too!!
Mine has her first observation on Tuesday and I think that I am more nervous then she is

I teach high school. I have worked with a few student teachers and this is pretty similiar to how I have integrated them into the classroom. They need a little time to get used to your system of planning and classroom management so that things stay consistent for the students. Also, you want a few days to assess the person's strengths. At least the first few lessons they teach, you want them to feel comfortable. Let them teach the more difficult or complex lessons when they have a little more self confidence.

Best of luck...
Great advice from everyone. Think of what you wanted from a CT and try to provide that for your ST.
Even though it's your first year in this school think of it as a learning experience. I always love having STs because I am reminded that I am modeling for them best teaching practices, and I tend to be on my best behavior as a result.

Re: It's official...
Well we are on week 2 and her Field Sup. is coming into a observe her today. I think I am more nervous then she is. I have never had a field sup in so fast but he's having surgery. She has taught (because of ELAs) 3-4 days and he's coming in. I was on the phone with her last night for 40 minutes. Going over the lesson. I am keeping my fingers crossed. I have already nervous that she falls apart when she is nervous.
I just pray this goes well. My belly is too big for me to hide at this point
