Im scared
I am pregnant with my first baby and I cant be any happier.. But I am very scared about giving a birth. My sister had a lot of trouble when she had my nephew that she agreed to a C section due to some labor problms. All of you ladies that are already moms, please let me know if its as scary as it sounds.

Re: Im scared
I cant speak from experience since this is my first baby..but i think it helps to know that almost everyone feels the same way as you. Every woman is different and even though your sister might of had a difficult labor, there is no reason to think you will. As I approach delivery i find that pep talks help a lot. I can totally do this..and like someone else said our bodies were made to do this. Its completely natural...and well get through it.
Hang in there..its ok to be nervous.

The anticipation is much worse then the actual experience. I felt great after I delivered my daughter. The unknowns were what drove me crazy but when it came down to it, it wasn't that scary.

Re: Im scared
I didn't give birth to a normal size baby, however, I did have to give birth before I had ever gone to birthing classes. I had no clue what to do.
The doctors and nurses really did coach me along and tell me exactly what to do. Your body really does know what to do, even if your mind does not.
Please don't worry!

Re: Im scared
i have a 7 month old son (and i am not currently pregnant) but i wanted to respond and let you know that i had a very positive birth. I did have an epidural, but i was lucky b/c i dilated fast and the baby came out in 15 minutes. It really was not bad at all, so just know that not every birth is rough

Re: Im scared
I know it's scary but don't think about it yet - wait until the end or you will drive yourself crazy. just like pregnancy, every labor is different. I had a great experience with DS (no epi). It's really amazing. And, if it were THAT bad believe me I would never be doing this again. I am nervous too and this is the second time around. I educated myself on both types of deliveries and asked lots of questions (so you're on the right path).
You will be great and once you see that little bugger........it's amazing. You can do it.

Re: Im scared
For me the labor and delivery was very easy ( I had a great epidural). I did have (am having) a difficult recovery because I tore. Everyone is different. Some people have very easy deliveries. Try not to worry about it.

Re: Im scared
It differs from woman to woman and even the same woman can have different birthing experiences...
My BFF's first son was a nightmare birth... diagonal epiziotomy and all. Second son was nothing like that.
My way of thinking, people have been having kids for how long now? I mean I doubt it will be a day at the beach, but I'm sure there are worse things. I find when I'm going through stuff, even pregnancy related tests that are uncomfortable/painful, I just think about holding my baby in a few months... it's a natural pain diffuser. I'm also not finding out the sex in advance in part b/c I want to think about the excitement of finally knowing when I'm pushing baby out. I think having a good supportive doctor helps a lot too. I love my doctor, feel totally comfortable with him and know that I'm in great hands.

Re: Im scared
I'm pretty nervous myself, BUT it is reassuring to know that our mommas all did it the hard way and most of them voluntarily elected to do it more than once. This is what my mother tells me when I admit to being scared.

Re: Im scared
I'm scared too, but I think I'm more scared of what do after the baby is born. How often do I change, feed the baby?, How much is too much food, etc. These are all questions, that run through my mind all the time.
I think its because I'm the first in my family and when growing up my cousins and siblings, well we were all around the same age and I NEVER been around ANY babies to see how things were done and have "Learn-hands-on experience".

Re: Im scared
It sounds horrible, and I can't say it's a cakewalk, but it wasn't as bad as I anticipated. My labor wound up lasting 22 hours, and if you told me in advance it was going to take that long, I think I would have been a wreck and never would have believed that I could do it. But once it gets going, you just do it. Both DS and I were fine. The doctors and nurses coach you also if you don't know how to breath or push, they'll tell you how to do this.
It might help to talk to your doctor, or read a bit about it. Also, if you make a birth plan, try to be really flexible.
You'll be fine--don't worry!
