European trip in three weeks!

Dh is working in Germany for the next few monthsChat Icon which is obviously very difficult on us both....

However, I am going to visit him in three weeks. He will still be new to Germany and will not have gone outside of the country yet so...

our plan is to do two days in Germany, one day in Amterdam (day trip), two days in Brussels, three days in Paris and then back to Germany where I will be taking a plane the next day....

What things are a MUST see in Frankfurt? Dusseldorf? Amsterdam? Brussels?

I've been to Paris before but he has not, so we will do the normal "touristy" things

Any restaurants that you recommend too?

BRUSSELS!!! One of my favorite European Cities. Not a TON to see.. but the food is amazing. Waffle stands and beer, that is all you need to know Chat Icon

It's worth it to splurge on a drink at an outdoor cafe on the Grand Place. And you gotta go see Mannequin Pis!

Samantha Brown had a great Brussels and Amsterdam episode.

Loved the Amsterdam canal tour and Anne Fran house. Can't miss!

Enjoy!

In Brussells they have this amazing underground art gallery, not to mention the Herge artwork all around the city (Tin Tin stuff....I love it) and also, the Jacques Brel Museum!!! Granted you have to be a Jacques Brel fan....but still fab.

Re: European trip in three weeks!

What part of Germany is he in? I lived there for a year so maybe I can help you.

Frankfurt isn't anything special, IMO. There are areas around Frankfurt which I heard were beautiful (I didn't see a lot in that area though). I lived in a little town by Stuttgart called Tuebingen. It was beautiful. I can also suggest Freiburg (there are two; i mean the one in what was West Germany) and Heidelberg. They are nice college towns.

But if you have the times- I suggest Munich (very nice at this time of year). If you like to ski then check out Garmisch. Even if you don't ski it is still nice.

I wouldn't miss Berlin. It is one on my favourite cities. Koeln is on the way to Amsterdam so that is convenient and it is nice as well. Stuttgart isn't that great.

Give me a better idea of where you are and I can help you.

Re: European trip in three weeks!

I loved, loved, loved Brussels! I agree with the other suggestions, but IF you have time (I know you're only going for 2 days), try to see how much sightseeing you can do in one day in the city itself then take a day trip to Brugge. What an amazingly gorgeous and romantic place to vist. If I remember correctly it was just under 2 hours from Brussels.

His apartment is in Dusseldorf...
He is about 30 minutes from Cologne
I am flying into Frankfurt-2 hours away just because the flights were better for me.

I was thinking of skipping Amsterdam and having another day in Brussels, but he wants to go to Amsterdam----maybe I can talk him out of it because I heard Brussels and Brugge are beautiful.

Since it will be cold (February) are there activities we will not be able to do?

Re: European trip in three weeks!

I haven't been to Düsseldorf. But I did find this website and you can look at in English :

http://www.duesseldorf.de/de/

Hamburg is nice and I stayed in a city outsode of Hamburg. I forgot the name, it was a party weekend...lol. But I do remember it is beautiful.

The Rhein has good areas for wine.

Since you are about 4 hours away from Berlin I would make an effort to go there if you can. Really worth it especially if you like history.

Every German city has a website. Just put in www.name of city.de
