Re: the core plan
Hi-The core plan is a list of foods that you can eat from without weighing or measuring. For the most part it's lean meats, veggies, fruit, whole grains like brown rice and whole wheat pasta. You are given an extra 35 points for the week that allows you to eat things that aren't core foods.
I don't know if you remember me-you and I had the same wedding dress! Your daughter is beautiful by the way.

Re: the core plan
Hi! Yeah Michelle did a great job of explaining it. Basic rules of core:
1. Stick to the foods on the core list. 2. Anything outside the core list comes off of your weekly points allowance (35 pts a week) 3. Any activity points earned also can be used for food outside core however they must be eaten on the same day. 4. You may eat brown rice OR whole wheat pasta OR baked potato (regular or sweet) once per day - no serving size necessary, just until you are satisfied. 5. You eat until you are satisfied - NOT FULL - it should feel like nothing. It is in between hungry and full. 6. Ground meat such as chicken, turkey or beef (93% lean or better) is allowed once per day. 7. Puffed rice cereal is also allowed once per day and must be eaten with skim milk. 8. 2 teaspoons of oil on the core list (such as olive oil) is allowed once per day at no extra points. 9. If you eat any of the above "exceptions" more than once per day you simply just count it the second time around.
All other core foods with the above exceptions you can eat as much as you need to feel satisfied.
And just like with flex it's important to get your 8 healthy guidelines in with each day. The 2-3 servings of dairy minimum 5 servings of fruit/veggies, 2 teaspoons of oil, vitamin a day etc.
This is my third week and I am in love - can't see myself going back. Good luck!!!!
PS Also check out the core food message board on ww. It's very helpful and you can find a lot of great recipes and information there.

You really like it? I was thinking of giving it a go because I'm stuck right now. I'm heading back to the gym today (after months of inactivity) and wanted to try core.
Can you tell me what you cook for dinner? Can you eat steak on it? Thanks

Karen do you use e-tools? If you switch the planner from flex to core, you get all this core information that I personally never knew existed.
If you switch it to Core you will find the complete core food list. It has EVERYTHING on there (a lot of stuff that is not in the book). You'll also see meal ideas that are core based and even when you click on the restaurants link, they give you guidelines on how to eat out on core. So ww online I'm finding to be a tremendous source while on core.
You can eat steak, but it has to be a lean cut of steak and all visible fat must be trimmed. I am actually eating steak tonight with quinoa
I have been eating a variety of things...some of the things I've made since on core:
-Turkey Burgers w/ soup (I made a double-pea soup that's GREAT - I posted the recipe a couple of weeks ago). I have a light bun and just count the 1 point. -Pork chops w/ sweet potato -Whole wheat pasta with homemade tomato sauce tossed with grilled chicken -Mexican Sloppy Joes (a recipe from one of the weeks handouts) over salad w/ ff sour cream -Grilled chicken w/ couscous or brown rice
Haven't made it yet but the ww best ever chili is also core. I am trying Trader Joes Chilie Lime Chicken Burgers today, they are raved about on the core message board and are core as well. I am having it topped with some homemade guacamole and a side salad w/ 2 Tbsp of Marie's light bleu cheese dressing (thanks Bri!!!) which is only 1 pt.
Anyways, basically whatever you eat now I am sure can be modified to be core. Let me know if you need any help and/or ideas. If there is enough of us maybe we should start a core thread.

Re: the core plan
I am doing flex now also and I hate counting points for the foods I am eating. I always loved the atkins diet but I didnt love eating all of the fat. I wonder if the core plan would be easier for me to follow.
Can you post a sample of what you would eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks during the day? Thanks,
Scott

Re: the core plan
Isn't the Marie's light BC dressing DELICIOUS!?
BTW- I wish I could love core as much as you do. I have tried it in the past and I just couldn't stick to only 35 points worth of non-core foods. My goal is to eventually start eating cleaner foods, which may lead me to experimenting with core. I am just not mentally there yet. You have done so well and are such an amazing role model for others! (sorry for hijacking)

THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! I swear it's like I am eating wings with the dressing it's that good You always give the best suggestions in meetings!!
I have always ate pretty "plain" and healthy on the flex plan. It was the snacks that were killing me. They also just don't go well with my system - I honestly do better on fruits and veggies
Anyway, it was pretty easy for me to decide to switch. I eat a lot of the core foods regularly, it was just a matter of planning my schedule and adjusting certain eating habits to make it work. I think if you do end up "cleaning" up what you eat, core would actually work really well for you since you are on maintenance. I'm sure after a while the weighing, counting and measuring could be a PIA. Try slowly incorporating core foods into your diet and it might be easier.
Oh and talk about an inspiration missy!!!!! You're one of the few people I know that have hit lifetime and are staying there!!!
Yes sorry for the hijack too

Here are some things I've been eating. Mind you, this is only my third week so I am still very new at this. For more ideas, check the ww website. If you switch your plan to core you get the complete list of core foods and you can also check for meal ideas.
Another great resource is the core message board on ww. You can search for the daily menu posts and see what the veteran corbies eat regularly.
Breakfast (I am boring!) -Egg omelet - 2 egg whites & 1 egg, 2 slices of candian bacon, sometimes onions and/or peppers and a splash of milk -Cereal - I eat Special K Protein Plus exclusively. I have to count 1 pt for the 3/4 of cereal and use skim milk -You may also have puffed rice cereal once a day, that is core -I don't do the plain oatmeal thing, but you can always try experimenting with what works for you. Maybe making it with skim milk and adding bananas
Lunch and Dinner - I don't really distinguish between the two because I am lucky enough to be able to bring leftovers and heat them up at work. I posted a couple of things above and I also have a couple of days menus on the ww thread that I'll post here.
Snacks (again I am boring - maybe that's why I like core so much!!) -Baby carrots -Fruit (apples, pears, mandarin oranges, bananas, grapes, strawberries whatever!) -I also like to have skim milk with a fruit once a day as a snack -And of course 94% ff popcorn (mini bags)
HTH!!!
Morning (Egg Omelet) 3 items egg white(s) 2 slices Canadian-style bacon onions and peppers - Quick-added food 0 Subtotal 0 Midday (Mexican takeout tostada salad - I asked for no shell, cheese, sour cream or guac and asked for fresh avocado instead) 2 cup mixed greens 1 item refrigerated grilled chicken breast fillet 3 1 cup pico de gallo 3/4 cup cooked black beans 1/2 medium avocado Subtotal 3 Evening 3 oz cooked lean boneless pork chop 1 large cooked sweet potato 1 cup split pea soup Subtotal 0 Snacks 1 cup fat-free skim milk 1 medium apple(s)
Morning 1 serving special k protein plus 1 1 cup fat-free skim milk Subtotal 1 Midday 1 item cooked chicken fillet 2 cup mixed greens 1 1/2 serving northern italian dressing (light) 2 Subtotal 2 Evening (turkey burgers w/ lots of seasoning) 4 oz uncooked ground turkey breast 1 item light hamburger roll or bun 1 Greek Chicken Soup (core recipe) Subtotal 1 Snacks 1 large banana(s) 1 medium apple(s) 1 medium pear(s) 1 cup fat-free skim milk 5 oz baby carrots Subtotal 0

Re: the core plan
Oh and I must add that I just tried a new grain on the core list quinoa and it's great! It's like in between rice and couscous. I made it with some chicken broth.
I also love whole wheat couscous, that is also on the list.
And my new favorite thing I started making this weekend were fries.
-Cut up potato into thin circles (try to get them the same width so they cook evenly) -Toss with 2 tsp olive oil -Add sea salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, cinnamon -Spray a cookie sheet and bake on 450 until cooked through - then broil for a few minutes to get a little more crispy.
YUM!!! and all core!

Yup! But you can only have the potato once a day and no whole wheat pasta or brown rice if you do. It's either or. But I've found other whole grains like couscous and quinoa that are great alternatives for something like brown rice.
Jennifer I pretty sure it's limited to one meal a day. Any core food is unlimited until you are satisfied. Only non-core foods must be weighed or measure.

Hey, sounds good to me! I'll take your word for it!!
eta: Wish bone makes a pretty good fat free blue cheese dressing that is NO points...
also for a snack I roast chick peas with different seasonings, my daughter loves them too.
Scott - I know you are only on day 1, but are you finding it easier NOT to track your points?
I personally feel like core is the way we SHOULD be eating..healthy and in moderation.

Midday (Mexican takeout tostada salad - I asked for no shell, cheese, sour cream or guac and asked for fresh avocado instead) 2 cup mixed greens 1 item refrigerated grilled chicken breast fillet 3 1 cup pico de gallo 3/4 cup cooked black beans 1/2 medium avocado Subtotal 3
Just wondering why the chicken counts as 3 and is not core. Is this because you are unsure of the preparation?

Yeah chicken is usually core but because this was takeout I just counted the grilled chicken points (to also kind of cover for the black beans as well). I know wierd, sorry I should not use that as an example
They just recently added fast food grilled chicken as core - before I think you had to count points for them.

Yes but I don't know how they make them (if they are just plain or what). It's just me being eccentric.
