I think there are nipples specifically designed for that purpose - "y" nipples.

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
if you're really desperate tonight, I think you can also just use a pin or a needle to make the hole a little bigger to help her out.

I'll answer for T.... yes the ped told her to do it. We were both a little surprised since Sofia is a little young, but it has helped her a lot!

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
We had to put cereal in the bottle for my DS (he has reflux) and we moved up to the Stage 2 nipples. It took him forever to drink with the Stage 1 nipples and we would both get frustrated. I hope you DD feesl better with the cereal added.

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
We use the playtex nursers. The fast flow nipples were perfect for cereal bottles. DS gets 2 TABLESPOONS of rice in an 8oz bottle....
BTDT Tip: Beechnut Rice Cereal is a lot finer than the others and works better in the bottle than the other brands.

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
I use Playtex and they have a variable nipple. DD didn't like it. I moved her from slow flow to Medium flow and now she's on fast flow.

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
Avent never worked for me with putting the cereal in. I would go get a few dr brown's bottles with the Y-cut nipple. They made such a difference with spit up and the bigger nipple helped with the flow.

thanks sissie We had the same problem and after going through tons of nipples, Avent sells nipples for thick liquids and they work well. I alos made the holes bigger in the other Avent nipples I had. We alos switched from Gerber rice to Beechnut - it is finer. Good luck, I know the frustration as we went through almost 2 weeks of trying different bottles/nipples before we found what worked for us.

Avent makes a variable flow nipple, and this works with the cereal. Also, I would suggest using beechnut as well. I like this one best!

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
We use Dr. Browns bottles and the gerber rice cereal clogged the nipples, the y nipple and next size up were too fast. The Dr. told us to use the Beechnut rice cereal because it is finer and it works perfect with the stage 1 nipple.

Re: For those of you who put cereal (rice)
I think we moved to the #2 nipple temporarily when we used the cereal. We stopped using the rice cereal very quickly because we decided, with our doctors, that his system was not ready for it. He had projectile vomiting and we ruled out all other causes. We had to move to other remedies for reflux.
