Question re: expiration dates
Do you throw out milk if it's past the expiration date regardless if it smells ok, or do you continue to use it until the smell can peel paint off your kitchen walls? I will use it past expiration, but I have a cut off regardless of how it smells. DH continues to use it until it smells bad.

I use it past expiration dates..but I make sure to smell it each time.
DH 'claims' he can't tell if it is bad or not. He doesn't understand that if he feels like throwing up after smelling it, it is bad.

Those arent expiration dates on the milk..they are sell by dates. Ive had milk that hasnt lasted til the date and Ive had milk that has lasted a lot longer.

Same here. All it took was one time that I had icky milk. i am VERY careful b/c I am "afraid" of almost bad or bad milk

If there's any hint of a bad smell, I don't drink it, regardless of what the Exp date says.
BTW, the 'sell by' dates in NYC are usually 1 or 2 days prior to the regular dates due to the generally longer time it takes to deliver milk in city stores.

I have to go by expiration dates because I have no sense of smell. I've eaten bad cold cuts & drank bad milk.

Me too! I never eat or drink anything past expiration!
same here...it drives Joe crazy. He is always yelling at me that I waste food, but I look at it like this....if he's not going to eat it and i'm not going to eat it why keep it in the fridge? If it expires on 02/19/08 it goes in the trash on 02/19/08
