Age and IF

I know this is a bit of a touchy subject, but how many of you ladies wonder if your IF is related to your age? I am in my mid thirties and can't help but think that my IF is related to my age since no other problems have been found.

Re: Age and IF

I think so, particularly because I had no issues conceiving my first child. I think I had some underlying issues that became aggravated as I aged. Or perhaps, my daughter is just a pure miracle.

Re: Age and IF

My IF is unrelated to my age. I am 30 and started having problems when I went off the pill at 28.Actually, I really think the problems started when I was a teenager, but ignored by my doctor.

Re: Age and IF

I'm not sure, I am 31. I didn't think that was old, but maybe once you hit 30 it's a different story. Maybe I would of gotten pregnant right away if I was 25.

Re: Age and IF

My doc told me it all comes down to the egg. I'll be 40 next month Chat Icon
I cannot believe it. So, I'm sure mine is related to age, at least partly. Have t-shaped uterus, but haven't been told that it would be a problem. DH (40) could have morphing problem. But, he's great on volume and motility.

ETA: DH no longer has morphing problem. another SA 6mths later with totally different results.

Re: Age and IF

I'm 37 and I don't believe my issues are due to age. I do have mild PCOS, but have always been regular up to the past 2 years. I believe my weight gain has alot to do with my PCOS, and not the other way around. We also have MF, my husband is 42, but I don't believe his issues are age related either. While time is definately not on my side, I don't believe age to be the fault here.

Re: Age and IF

My issues were not due to age though I thought they would be when I first started. My issues were anatomical. After that was corrected, I got PG in 3/5 unmedicated IUI attempts. It is more likely that a woman who is older may miscarry so from THAT perspective, it was an issue. But conception itself was not a problem for me once the anatomical issue was corrected.

Re: Age and IF

I've had PCOS since period #3 (the first two were regular Chat Icon). My age (36) isn't helping matters.

ETA: My weight isn't helping, either.

Re: Age and IF

Im 29 and have been battling since 28.
It is funny because my mom was one of those that got pregnant on the first try with all 3 so i figured i would be the same!

I was impatient about not being preggo after 6 month and got a work up bc i just knew something was off, cycles got long etc..and sure enough i am so glad i did! PCOS, ENDO, lost a tube..and am so glad i didnt waste any more time! I am on month number 10 with a good game plan...iui's medicated and then on to IVF. I think age is very subjective because issues with the reproductive system develop alot of times when we are young, they progress as we age but if undetected, can be a really messy thing at any age. No one in my family ever had endo and i was on the pill for years so it masked the symptoms...

Re: Age and IF

I am 39, my IF is not my problem, very clearly stated to me by my RE, I have a other issues..part genetics..which would be if I was 22 or 39.

I think more than age, it's the stress of the whole thing...even though I have to do IUI w/Clomid, I think I have stressed too much and that's why it didn't work, b/c the month I relaxed it did.

IF Is not necessarily related to your age, look at all those celebrities that are pregnant at 50! It all comes down to your health. Studies do show that once you hit a certain age around the 40 mark your chances of conveiving lessen.

Re: Age and IF

i think that age can be a factor as well as genetics and life style I will be 32 this yr and have been battling this since I was 26 (when we first started to try) due to PCOS which was misdiagnosed (but all the signs were present) I stopped having AF all together when i was about 24 or 25 and no one could figure it out until I researched it and asked my Dr to test me for it so i am sure that age is a factor but not the only one and going through this I found out recently that my mom had problems concieving as well but only needed to take clomid not what I am going through but she was also a few yrs younger when she started so i dont think that there is any rhyme or reason some people are just chosen because deep down inside we have the strength to do this although its not evident while we are doing but i do know that i have found an inner strength inside me that i never knew i had...

Re: Age and IF

Age is a factor only in regard to the eggs. I am 42 and started having treatment at 38....I didn't start IVF until I was 41 and because of my age, even though they got a ton of eggs from me at each retrieval, the quality was not great and I wouldn't get PG.

same here. my problems started when I was around 18 or so- were diagnosed around 20 and we started TTC around age 24.

Re: Age and IF

We haven't gotten an exact reason for our IF. What it all comes down to is the fact that my ovaries are aging at a very accelerated rate for someone my age. I'm 37. I recently found out that smoking ages your ovaries which I never knew before. So I'm sure that has alot to do with our problems.

Do you seriously think t hat most of the celebrities who are pregnant at 50 (or 40 for that matter) did not get help conceiving?
It is not true that it all comes down your health. A woman can be perfectly healthy otherwise, but if she is of a certain age, the "quality" (for lack of a better word) of the eggs start decreasing. The eggs don't know that 40 is not "old" anymore, our biological clocks are working on an old evolutionary modelChat Icon .

This is exactly the problem with our society. We see celebrities getting PG at 50 and think sure why can't I wait.. this celebrities are getting fertility help and don't talk about it! And they have LOTS more money than us to spend on IVF! Don't kid yourself.

Re: Age and IF

I am still up in the air whether egg quality can be improved or not. In Traditional; Chinese Medicine they can. Age was not a factor in my IF, my tubes were plus some immune issues.

Re: Age and IF

Age is not a factor for us. We're dealing with severe MF due to a genetic thing that DH has.

ITA! Too many women are being mislead by the celebs in their 40's and older getting PG. Most of these women have undergone fertility treatments of somes sort in order to achieve a pregnancy. They go to great lenghts and great expenses to get pregnant.

I think age has something to do with it...I started trying at 35 (I"m 37 now).
It also seems like meds I took when I was younger for an unrelated thing may have affected my ovaries and caused them to age more rapidly.

I wish they had told me that might have been a side effect. I might not have been so lax about waiting to start trying.
