I really need some help booking Washington DC
I have been searching and searching for a decent priced hotel , but it all seems to be 300.00 on average a night. I do not mind spending money, but really would prefer not to pay that for a clean room and shower, but still want a nice hotel. What areas should we be looking in? It does not have to be right in DC if that will save us some money, what are the decent outlying areas of Virginia, etc. TIA! We plan on going in August. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: I really need some help booking Washington DC
I HIGHLY recommend downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. I used to live there There is a metro stop there and a metro trip downtown is less than 15 minutes.
Three hotels there: Hilton Downtown Silver Spring (Colesville Road) Marriot Silver Spring Crowne Plaza Silver Spring (this one is a little longer of a walk to the metro)
Hotels should be much cheaper and there are tons of restaurants in the neighborhood.Link to Downtown Silver Spring Information

Re: I really need some help booking Washington DC
We stayed in Arlington, VA. I can't think of the name of the hotel but it'll come to me! We were a block from the metro and it was about a 5/10 minute metro ride into DC. It was perfect! So convenient and quite a few nice places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. We never drove anywhere!
ETS: It was the Hilton Garden Inn. Nice breakfast, clean, and nice service. I think we paid about $150 (for some reason $157 is sticking in my mind) per night.

Try a Kimpton Hotel...
These were recommended to us!
Click Here - they have quite a few different locations!
They are supposed to be cool, trendy, clean and priced right!

Re: I really need some help booking Washington DC
If you want to stay downtown, The Westin Grand is nice and they are just finishing a renovation.
Right outside the city in VA there is the Westin Arlington which is 2 years old. The Sheraton Crystal City is decent and there are a lot of cute restaurants right there. There is also the Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria and The Westin Alexandria which just opened in November -it's gorgeous.
I have stayed at all of the above.

Re: I really need some help booking Washington DC
I did priceline.com when we went and put in bids for our room. You can specify the area of DC, so you won't get stuck somewhere you don't want to be, and you can specify the quality of the hotel. We did really well with it--under $100 with a gorgeous hotel right on the metro line.

Try Arlington or Old Town Alexandria.
I LOVE Old Town. There's a ferry that goes right over to DC, and there's the King Street Metro that will take you the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, etc. Plus, there are TONS of places to eat, and on weekend nights there's all sorts of stuff down by the water (performers, etc).
