I am beng a baby, need some support TIA

So I have yet another yeast infection they are coming every 2 - 3 months. My dr is convinced that the infection just needs to nipped in the but and has prescribed diflucan 100mg once a day for 7 days. He took my blood and said my liver is fine for the large dosage and that I do not have diabetes or anything else causing the infection. Now even though the DR has made a great case I am freaking the hell out. I have the bottle of pills right next to me and I cant get the nerve to swallow them bc I am crazy... I have all these what ifs going through my head. Such as:

what happens if i am pregnant even though the 2 times i had sex this menstrual period i used 2 forms of protection vcf spermicide insert and good old pull out method ( i know thats not a good method)

what if its not a yeast infection and i am kiling good bacteria in my body

what if I have a bad reaction even though i have taken one pill in the past and I was fine..

what if i have a panic attack and cant take xanax which the dr said i could if that did happen

I am nuts

Ok...first question I have is,

Is he SURE it is a yeast infection? Did he culture it? Are you having itching and the classic white discharge associated with a yeast infection?

I ask this b/c I was wrongly diagnosed by my "good" dr for many mths....turns out it was bacterial, not yeast. And when it was treated correctly, then it went away.

Second question I have is, I have read up a lot about yeast infections. Eating yogurt and taking acidophilus pills are helpful, in addition to cutting back on carbs.

Did you know this, or have you considered either of these options?

My gut instinct is I want to know if you have classic yeast infection signs? I know how frustrating it can be. Also if you are married, or have a SO, they should be treated b/c people can keep passing infections b/w each other (yes, sometimes even yeast).

And are you sure your dr knows his/her stuff? B/c turns out mine, whom I thought was good for many years, actually was not that good after all. I went for 3 opinions at the time, and turns out only ONE guy knew to treat and test for a bacterial infection as opposed to yeast.

Chat Icon I hope i can help you.

The dr has done a culture in the past and she said it was yeast and its always the same feeling so i do not have any reason to believe its not but i should def call and check it out anyway . the dr said if my dh had it he would be complaining of jock itch or symptoms and he is not. We even tried not having sex for 2 months and I still got the infection. They also treated me for Bacterial vaginosis and that helped with another problem I was having down there which has not come back but these damm yi keep reoccuring. I bought those pills to prevent yeast infections and i am going to start taking them right after i am done with this diflucan. thank you so much for your response i really appreciate it

I am prone to them as well. I have suffered from them since I was 15 and now get them only about 3-4 times per year. I know what a pain in the arse they are and it really affects your entire lifestyle and overall feelings about yourself. There are several things you can do:

-take acidophillus pills regularly (honestly, i stopped taking them but i used to take handfuls at at time when i felt a yeast infection coming on)

-cut back on carbs. this has helped me TREMENDOUSLY.

-eat yogurt religiously!

-switch BC pills.

-switch the lube that you use.

-do not use tampons the next few times you have your period.

-if you wear pantyliners, be sure you change them OFTEN

-wear only cotton underwear. if you wear thongs, cut back on how often you wear them.

-treat your DH. you could be passing it back and forth and do not know it. he could have an infection and NOT know it. the last time i had an infection, my dr gave me a script for diflucan and instructed me to give my DH a pill. it can't and won't hurt to give him one.

Good luck. I know how annoying these infections can be!!
