birth classes??
I will be a first time mom at the end of June, and was planning on taking some sort of birthing class just so i know what to expect, but now I'm on bedrest and can't take a class. Did anyone take one of these classes? My Dr. said not to worry they will help me through the delivery, but I can't help but feel like I'm missing out on some good info.

You should call over there to find out. I received the ppwk from my Dr's office regarding these classes. I called the woman over there and she gave me a bunch of dates. I think the class was around $175 or so, I forget and that was for both myself and DH.
Here's the website info:

Re: birth classes??
You can rent birthing class movies from the library. That's what DH and I did and we found them to be very informative. Can someone go get them for you? Plus, it's a good way for you to spend a day (one of the tapes was 5 hours long!) since you're on bed rest.

Re: birth classes??
i took a class and learned alot, but it was mostly about natural childbirth techniques. the stuff that pertained to childbirth in general was the same as in all of the books (what to expect, etc.), no new info on that front.

Re: birth classes??
The DVDs are the Laugh and Learn series - they have child birth, breastfeeding and childcare. Jericho Library has them, so if you live in Nassau you are able to borrow them...
I'm not sure if a Library in suffolk has them, but you can call and find out!
I took childbirth class at winthrop, it was good, but not worth the $150 - there was only one class I learned stuff I didn't already know (about pain medications) - watch the video instead...

Re: birth classes??
I just had a birth class last night at my house. Im also on restricted activity/bed rest. My Dr. Recommended a labor and delivery nurse from Winthrop who does the class in your home. She came last night and I though she was great! She went through everything..it was about 3 hours and because it was just me and my husband I could jump in and ask a question at any time....Im not too outspoken and if I was in a larger class I know I wouldn't have asked any questions because I would have felt foolish or embarrassed. The class was $175...which is pricey...but I think the class at Winthrop that I would have taken was $160...so not too much more. Anyway if you are interested I will FM you her contact info.
Good luck with everything!
