anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
ok, so I have posted a few times about how my DS is not picking up his head yet and our difficulties with tummy time. I was pretty down last ngiht (Thanks to those ladies that posted some encouragement) and tonight have a better frame of mind. I am looking for any and all suggestion to help with tummy time....any specific toys, ideas, times, tips or tricks that may help...I know it seems liek a simple thing but any help or ideas would be welcome....TIA!!!

I always give the same advice, air out his tush while on his stomach.
I put down 2 think cloth diapers, took off his diaper and he was so happy to be on the floor for tummy time.

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
I remember that my ped said to try to get 15 minutes a day, but it didn't have to be all at once. It could be a bunch of 2 or 3 minute sessions if I had to.
I used to get on my belly right in front of them to give them something to focus on.
We had this cute turtle with a mirror in it's belly that they both loved since babies like to look at themselves. This is a pic of one from ebay.
I think they have a lot of tummy time toys out there now.

You know this may be why DS loves when I do tummy time while changing his diaper...its the only time he truly seems happy doing it.!

DS hated tummy time. But he would do it on the diaper changer mattress. So i did it then and then also at bath time when i would put lotion on him and massage him he would do sooo well now he does well anywhere!!

DD hated it too! I got a good suggestion though - put him on the changing pad, face down, with his head hanging over the end. Then kneel in front of him. It works great!!
Also have you tried with a mirror on the floor? We did this at Gymboree and at first DD hated it, and eventually did it for longer and longer periods of time.

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
How old is DC? We had a similar problem-at here 4 month mark the DR. even thought there might be a low tone issue and she might need a physical therapist referral. We worked really hard between her 4 and 6 month visits and she was doing miles better and there is really no concern any longer. I know it is tough, but the only thing that worked for us to more tummy time, keep toys around her and for us to sit at her head to make her look up. Good luck!

YEP! That is what we used with Jack when he wasn't getting enough tummy time in. I also placed a Lamaze mirror in front of him.

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
My oldest hated tummy time too, we used use the boppy pillow. But the way we did it the most is by putting her on our chest.
We would lay her belly down on our chest and lay back a bit, naturally she would just lvoe to look in mommy/daddy's eyes, and we'd talk to her.
I could only do tummy time with her a couple mins at a time.

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
I lay down on the floor in front of him so he can see me and tell him what a good job he is doing, and talk to him. He also likes it when I turn on the lights on his playmat--he likes watching them and it distracts him from the discomfort of tummy time. Putting a toy he likes in front of him might help also.
As someone else said, we break up tummy time. I was told 10 minutes a day helps, but we did it in small chunks initially. I never tried airing out his tush--that's an idea!

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
I put a little pillow under him that came with his Baby Einstein. Also when he wasn't lifting his head I put my head under his chest and he then put his head up. Also, I think someone already posted this, but trying doing tummy time in just his diaper.

Re: anyone willing to help me with ideas re: tummy time
My DD hated tummy time too, until I read that it is better if you strip them down to as little clothes as possible. As soon as I started doing tummy time in her onesie instead of full clothes she went from 1 minute at a time to 15 minutes at a time. Before that I would also use a small boppy pillow or put her on my chest..
