Jarama Credit

has anyone filled for one in NYC? how did it turn out?

i stated teaching Nov 06 as a long term substitute, hired as a teacher for this year. My principal had never appointed me and is doing that now effective Aug 07 (since that is when the teacher i covered resigned).

My problem is that i want that prior year that i worked as a LTS to count towards my tenure That year i was observed just like any other teacher. My principal told me to fill out the Jarama credit. I dont know anyone who has done this and im kinda nervous about it not being accepted.

I dont want to tack on another year towards my tenure

Fill it out!!!
They will need to give you the Jarema credit if your service was for the same cert area for longer than a semester.

There are legal ed cases where it has been challenged, but that is more for people who were not certified during their time or were moved around to different cert areas.


I am not NYC, but this is a state credit.

I was in a first grade classroom from Nov-till the end of the school year and i def want that time to count.

Im going to fill it out for sure!! i just hope its accepted, i dont know how this process works

I got a year and a half off my probabtion by getting jarema credit. i was a long term sub like you. just get the form signed by your principal and send it in certified mail. you should get a letter in writing. if you don't hear back in a couple months have your payroll secretary check into it for you.
