There is. But, sometimes people are just trying to vent or have a shoulder to cry on. So, for someone to provide "constructive criticism" at that time can be inappropriate.

This is me too! It's usually ONLY work related things - but I do tend to overthink things a lot of the time. I have a bad habit of wanting to make everyone happy and I think I care too much about what people think of me. I'm getting better though!

i have another example of how i take things personally how would you feel if you invited your boss to your wedding and than 2 years later you find out she is getting married and she does not tell you that she is engaged or invite you to her wedding? I am so furious i cant believe she didn't even think of inviting me not that i would go now because i have a another wedding to go to but just the thought would have been nice!

In the past I took things way too personally for my own good. I let the smallest things bother me. Now though, while I occasionally take things personally, It's a rarity that I do.
