Academic Dishonesty
I HATE PLAGIARISTS!!!!!
Sorry... I just had to get that out of my system. I should be sleeping, but I just found YET ANOTHER plagiarist (in my AP class, no less), so I have to finish grading so I can give these back tomorrow. And I LIKE THIS GIRL. Oh I hate this SO MUCH.

This is where the internet can be more trouble than it's worth. It always amazes me how kids think we won't pick up on it! As I tell my students- if you can find it on the internet, so can I!

I've taught AP for several years now. They have the most to gain/lose therefore, the temptation is the greatest to cheat. It's amazing what they hand in and expect me to believe they wrote it.
It used to get me crazy. Now I use "Turn it in.com" The greatest invention to the teaching profession. I've caught several of them and LOVE the look on their face when I hand them their printed out essay with all of the plagurized sentences highlighted... yes, sometimes it's the whole thing... they can't argue... big, fat, ZERO! Of course, this is after I fully explained I'd be doing this when I assigned the work.
Or if I see a word/phrase that I know they did not write, I'll call them up to my desk and ask them to use it in a sentence. Their response is usually... "Ummmm, ahhhh, ummmmm, can you say it again?"

School pressure is no excuse to cheat. I'm sure once you call her out on it, it won't happen again.

I use turnitin too, but I caught this girl with good ole Google. The good news is -- she admitted it immediately. I hate more than anything when they try to lie even when the proof is RIGHT BEFORE THEIR EYES.

I am so in agreement that there is NO excuse to cheat... but you'd be surprised by how many repeat offenders we get. It's really pretty rampant (and disgusting).

Almost all my plagiarism has been in my honors classes!
I once had the pages from the Eisenhower library in front of the student with her project and she still denied it! She siad it was a coincidence (all 4 pages of it )

Google is my best friend when grading papers. I've actually printed out where they plagerized from, read it aloud to the class, let them take credit for it, and then flipped out on them. Then I write them up and they get suspended
