Acid Reflux?
Does anyone's baby has this?
If so, how did they diagnose it?

Re: Acid Reflux?
yes. her ped diagnosed it initially at 7 weeks and then we went to a GI pediatric specialist who confirmed it by examining her and the symptoms, major spit-ups (only gained 3 oz in one month), had to be held upright ALL the time otherwise she screamed, fussy, back arching, the expression of "acita" on her poor little face i don't even want to remember it

Re: Acid Reflux?
Yeah our baby was diagnosed with it early on too. I was actually in the ped's office when dd spit up like 3 oz of milk all over me. My ped told me that I had to see a specialist. DD was also allergic to milk. She was on Neocate (prescription formula that cost a fortune). The GI specialist put her on so many different medicines. I think she was on at least 5 different ones in a mater of 3weeks (can't remember all of the names but a few were..Prilosec & Prevacid) . Finally we switched doctors and he said that there wasn't anything we could do. The baby will eventually just grow out of it at around 8 months. So around 7 months we weaned her off the meds and like magic at 8 months the spitting up stopped. She was finally able to sleep through the night and she became a munch happier baby. I had a really rough time in the beginning. Just an FYI.. I found this website to be really helpful.. http://www.infantrefluxdisease.com/
I joined and would ask other mothers questions.. it was extremely helpful for me.

Re: Acid Reflux?
DS would spit up regularly, but not in massive amounts like some reflux babies, so we just thought ti was normal spit up. Byt the time he reached 5 months he was having trouble swallowing and was making a big noise when he swallowed, would take a couple sips and push the bottle away liek eh was done, but then cry for more. It would take forever for him to be able to get the whole bottle down. They put him on Zantac and we put cereal in his formula to thicken it. He just turned one and the spit up has stopped for the last 2 months, so we're actually gonna take him off the Zantac next week.
We did go see a Pediatric Gastroenterologist just to be sure and he agreed with our ped and said most children out grown it between 9 and 15 months of age.

Re: Acid Reflux?
Yep...the first sign was it sounded like DS was stuffed up after he took a bottle...almost like the formula was going into his nose. Then the spitting up happened....then it got worse. We were told to add rice to the formula which led to projectile vomiting. Needless to say we stopped that. He is on Zantac and seems like he is starting to grow out of it slowly
ETA: he is also on Alimentum - sitting up after the bottle helps too.

Re: Acid Reflux?
My DD spit up, but not in massive quantities. She was also Breastfed and gained weight amazingly.
She NEVER slept (at 8.5 months we just started getting 9 hours of sleep at night) and she would wake up crying in the middle of the night, in pain. I would nurse her and she would wake up 45 minutes later, screaming again... it was a vicious cycle.
Also, she constantly arched her back after feeding and wanted to nurse 24-7.
Zantac was a lifesaver and I was really leery about it at first.... made a world of difference for her......
Good Luck.....

I guess because I have reflux I am concerned. She does sleep about 3 hours at a time at night, shorter during the day. I feel like sometimes she is bothered by the spit up. Sometimes she'll slip up, and she has not eatten for a while. I am breastfeeding, and she is gaining weight nicely. Sometimes she does the feed-sleep thing. I guess I'll talk to the ped at the next appointment.

Re: Acid Reflux?
Ds had a wheezing problem. And was spitting up. We went to the ped pulmonologist and they said it was acid reflux. DS was 5 months when diagnosed. We started zantac and the spitting up and arching has decreased a lot. He still has a slight wheeze once in a while but thats getting better too. Good luck.
