Re: When do toddlers know their colors?

Just because he doesn't know his colors don't get depressed. All kids are different, if they did things all at the same time life would be boring. Give the kid some time, if he knows numbers and letters...well you should be shouting that from the rooftops.

Stop comparing your son to other people, thats an awful thing to do to yourself.

I'm not so much comparing but I had no idea that at 2 he should know them. I am more mad at myself that I haven't been teaching them to him.

Starting tomorrow I am going to worry more about colors. Good thing he is going to school in Sept.

I know it's your child and you only want the best for him so I don't mean this as badly as it's probably going to come across but this is such a strange comment. Starting tomorrow you are going to worry more? WHY?? As if we don't have enough to worry about as mothers!! Dont do it to yourself!!! Evenif he wasn't going to school in Sept., he is fine. Believe me as a mother of 3, he's fine. More than fine. Just include it more in your daily convos ie, "here's your red blanket" etc. It's so not a big deal in the big scheme of things. Of course we all want our kids to be on target or ahead of when they are "supposed to" be doing things but it all works itself out. Enjoy him, don't worry over him.

Allison - I wouldn't worry too much.
It is just things that parents might focus on differently.
I know Ali can only say Three, Five, Six, Eight and Ten. Whereas I am sure others at her age can probably count to Ten.
And does he know any of his letters?
Cause Ali doesn't know them at all.

I don't know if she is behind, but you know what - they eventually learn them Chat Icon

I just always want to make sure that I am teaching him what he should know by now. I need to relax with it though and make it fun. And go with the flow.

Thanks again everyoneChat Icon

ITA! My neice is 10 months older than DD. She started speaking very early and is very verbal. She talks just like a little adult. DD does not speak nearly as much as my neice when my neice turned 2, nor is DD's proncounciation as good as my neice's when my neice was DD's age.

However, Jordana's motor skills are off the charts. She still is better coordinated than my neice in some things.

It all balances out. Don't sweat the small stuff- or you'll make yourself nuts and DS will feel the effects of it too.

Re: When do toddlers know their colors?

My son knew his all his colors before his 2nd birthday in English and in Spanish.

My daughter who turned two in March only knows PINK and RED and only in English.

I feel badly because I know it directly related to how much time I spend reading with her. Andrew was read to everyday multiple times a day from the time he was an infant...............

Jacob knew all his colors by 2. He will be 2 and a half in June. I add new ones to his memory whenever I can. Ones like Silver, Teal... the kid amazes me!! He also counts to 20 in English and Spanish. Thanx to Dora and Diego I guess, cause i sure didnt teach him that!!! Chat Icon

I wouldnt worry though, i too read they should know their colors by age 3. Chat Icon

Re: When do toddlers know their colors?

Comparing your kid to other kids really WILL make you crazy. Just focus on what he CAN do, not what he doesn't do because he's a smart little boy who obviously understands everything!

My son wouldn't know his colors if they smacked him in the face, lol, and he is 19 months old.

But I know he is going to be behind in some stuff. Right now getting him to say "hi" would be the highlight of my day.

Sorry, sometimes it's just hard to read these posts where moms are so overly concerned about something that seems so developmentally normal whereas I pray and hope my son will be able to speak by 2 1/2. Chat Icon I know everyone has their problems and battles, but I guess the moral of my story is don't worry over it! He is doing just great!

Isn't everything Yellow?

Yellow and orange are the most recognized colors by the human eyes. That's why road signs and roadwork signs are yellow and orange.
