Re: Child Birth Classes
I didn't take any and was fine.
I'm the type of person the less I know the better. I get nervous when I know too much. I figure the doctors and nurses are going to tell me what do and I was right
It's a personal decision. If attending one makes you feel better, than I would.

Im sure you can get something out of it, but with the way I am, I will forget everything I learned when the time comes.

Re: Child Birth Classes
I took a one day class at my hospital. They covered signs of labor, pain management options (from breathing to drugs), we took a tour of the hospital (where to go when we arrive, the birthing rooms, family waiting area, etc), talked about the tests that the baby gets right after delivery, etc. We found it very worthwhile. I know I won't remember it all, but I feel more prepared. I also do not feel nervous about where to go/what to do/when to do it when my contractions start. That peace of mind makes it all worth it in my experience.

Re: Child Birth Classes
Everyone I have spoken to says "no." We are taking them anyway. I don't know how many children we plan on having and frankly I never want to look back and say I wish I did something that I didn't. I also feel that it allows DH to become more of a part of the pregnancy.

Re: Child Birth Classes
I think I'll take a DVD out of the library....
actually, I'm still debating hiring a doula to guide me through the labor process.. I REALLY want to avoid pictocin if I can... which means I also have to suck it up and not get an epidural so I can walk around and stay vertical.....

Wow, they covered a lot! I hope my hospital covers just as much as yours did. I agree, I think the peace of mind will help make me a little more relaxed which is why I think we may just go to tonight's class.

Re: Child Birth Classes
I took a hospital tour and took a 1 day class at my house from a woman that works at the hospital in the L&D section. She was fantastic. I knew everything that was going to happen and I wasn't scared.

Re: Child Birth Classes
I think they were worth it. I'm the type of person that likes to be in control, so the more info I have, the better. Plus, it was really good for DH to be there. I knew some things already from being on here and other websites, but he was kind of clueless and got a lot out of the classes.

Re: Child Birth Classes
nah. i rented laugh and learn from the library and burned it. actually i borrowed and burned all 3.
i don't think paying several hundred dollars to learn something i could learn from a dvd is worth it. and my friends all said it was a waste
my hospital tour is this week and it's free.

Ditto.
I took it when I was pregnant but it was mainly so that DH could understand what was going on. it blasted him away when he saw what our bodies were going through and what was going to happen in the weeks ahead.
I think it was more worthwhile for him than it was for me.

Re: Child Birth Classes
I didn't take any and was sort of glad I did not. Everything would have gone out the window at a certain point.
I did watch a DVD, Laugh and Learn about Childbirth, which helped a lot--there is a lot of info about the process even if you don't plan to do the breathing.

At Good Sam hospital, if your DH or coach did not take the C-Section class, then he/she cannot go into the OR with you if you have a C-Section.
