UPDATE: NIFR: My mom is in the hospital...
Wednesday night- I'm so upset. My mom got sick last night and had (sorry if TMI) vomiting and loose stool with blood in it (for lack of a better word)... all night. She barely slept, called out sick from work and had this happen all day as well. This happened to her in Florida on vacation 3 weeks ago and they're still trying to figure out what's wrong w/ her... no luck diagnosing this yet. In FL it was accompanied by diziness and almost fainting- and there they said her potassium was 'critically low' even though she takes potassium pills every day (2 or 3). I drove her there and stayed there w/ her from 7:30pm until 11:30- and just got home. They took a lot of blood and hooked her up to an IV of electrolytes, to make sure she's hydrated. All of the bloodwork came back normal. The dr is keeping her b/c there's even more blood in her stool this time than there was in FL. I've never left my mom in the hospital before I started crying when I left which I can't even blame on the hormones b/c I'm not on any- these people working there probably think I'm nuts. I just wish they'd figure out what's wrong w/ her. My dad's in the city working- which is where he stays all week... so I had to call him and my brother to tell them what's going on and where we were. It's been a rough night... now I have to sleep at her house b/c my grandma can't be left alone. Oh, and in 8 mins it will officially be our 4th anniversary.... and yet I don't even feel like celebrating. Please say a prayer for my mommy.
UPDATE:Thursday morning- Thanks everyone Not much of an update yet... My mom called my cell around 2:30am to let me know they had moved her out of ER and up to a room (she thought my phone would be off and was shocked when I picked up. ) She said this morning that she was still awake at almost 4am and that they woke her up at 6:15 to take blood out of her hand b/c they couldn't find a good vein My poor mom is TERRIFIED of needles... They were running more tests on her blood at the lab and there's talk of making her stay again tonight to get a colonoscopy done tomorrow, if her dr that's supposed to do it next week anyway is there. I don't know why no one else can do it. She hasn't eaten anything in 24 hours and had about 1 and 1/2 cups of tea all day yesterday, which she threw up over the course of the day. They aren't letting her eat or drink anything right now either- and she's really hungry and thirsty I'm trying to get thru to find out the visiting hours but have to take care of my grandma too--- this is crazy- I want to rush to be w/ my mom but grandma moves at the pace of a snail... she's just started on breakfast... UGH!!!!
Thurs Afternoon Update: I just got home. She made me leave so she could try to get some sleep I wanted to stay w/ her A dr came in and said they couldn't get anyone to do her colonoscopy tomorrow so she has to still wait to Monday, which is her original appointment that she made 3 weeks ago They aren't letting her leave though, because she still has blood in her stool- and she hasn't had a drop of water or food since yesterday morning.... The dr is putting her on a 'clear liquid' diet. I don't understand why she can't come home and be on a clear liquid diet here- at least she'd be in her own bed and able to use her own bathroom. The woman she's rooming w/ has to be in her late 80's or 90's and has pneumonia. All she does is keep asking for help- but she doesn't use the buzzer and she's not loud enough for the nurses to hear her outside of their room... and we all feel terrible not helping her so I kept getting up to offer her help- or call the nurse for her- but she can't hear b/c her battery is dead in her hearing aid- and she can't explain in what way she needs help. I feel so bad for her.... We went to the hospital, then left and I took my grandma out for a BIG italian lunch- knowing she'd have leftovers for dinner This way I can just heat them up for her and then either bring her w/ me back to the hospital tonight or leave her home for a couple of hours and call her to check on her...
Thurs night- Just got back from the hospital and grabbing dinner w/ my dad on the way home (it's 12:10 ) My mom is still in there They were 'hoping' to do a colonoscopy tomorrow but now they're planning on doing it on Monday which was her original date for it anyway (before she went to the ER). My dad and I and my brother have all expressed our concerns and told her we'd rather her go to Stony Brook... but she doesn't want to hear it. Hopefully tomorrow they'll actually let her go home- b/c the thought of her being in there over the weekend is not an option as far as I'm concerned... I'm going to head to bed now. Thank you for your continued prayers and thoughts...
