The BEST undercover poster of all time - was many years ago
when LOST was REALLY popular, someone created a fake name and pretended to be the plane - Oceanic Flight 815
That was BRILLIANT

hmmm, yeah...it wasn't too obviously aimed at me--- oh, wait, oops...there's some more "self-importance" coming out. I'm just "assuming" the OP was talking about me--it could've been anybody!!! Silly me...what was I thinking??

Wasn't just you, and I know who you are anyway
And I am not talking about people who have fake names to hide their pregnancy from family or whatever...I understand that to an extent...
Its the ones that seem to get a thrill out of people trying to figure it out...
I just find it strange, and I'm obviously not the only one

Re: "undercover" posters
I am "undercover" on pregnancy-- and that is purely so I can ask questions and participate in other pregnancy discussions. Not everyone in my life knows I am pregnant, in fact-- just immediate family and my best friend.
I have been burned on LIW when I thought "no one" was looking.
I also am not into people guessing who I am-- anonymity is the whole reason for the fake name to begin with.

Umm yeah I remember that one, it was someone very near and dear to me
Actually the board was filled with Lost characters... LMAO... Desmond, Jack, Sawyer, The Others.. oh yeah we had tons of fun back then
To answer the original question... I tend NOT to care for the "guess who I am" games when people decide to go incognito... it's a bit silly (IMHO). But I am also the first to admit that I try to guess who they are anyhow and laugh (to myself) if/when I am right
But I have no issue with incognito posters in general, esp. those on Relationships/TTC and/or Pregnancy. They have their reasons, and will reveal themselves if/when the time is right..

Re: "undercover" posters
there are many "undercover"posters on the relationship board but they create the alias with the intention of remaining undercover due to various personal issues. TOTALLY understandable. however, i don't understand why one would create and post under an alias in hopes that someone WOULD "uncover" their true identity.
huh?

I personally would not do an undercover name...when I (finally) get pregnant, I will wait til I am out of the woods, so to speak...otherwise I just won't post.
Its really hard when you have questions but you know your family lurks to just "wait" to post. Right now only one person IRL knows I am pregnant and he isn't much help when I have weird pregnancy issues to ask questions about

I just think it's silly when they "reveal" themselves and they only have 100 posts under the true screen name. Not that there is anything wrong with having a low post count (my own is smaller than most), but exactly who are you hiding from? No one even knows who you are.
In my case, I only joined LIF when I became pregnant so at the point that I reveal myself my post count will be small. And yes, i'm fully aware of Google (to respond to another poster) and use it often as well, but there are some things that are helpful to actually discuss with others on the PG board, Google doesn't respond when i'm worried or scared, the girls on here do. I don't taunt others with my hiding as I don't consider this a game, and I don't expect a parade when I "come out" either. But I have a family member on LIW (where I am a regular poster) that could very well find me here if someone on there happened to post that they saw my "news" on here. And we're not ready to tell anyone yet, period. You could say I could keep my mouth shut until I'm in the clear, but like I said, it's helpful to talk with others who are going through the same thing.
Thanks for explaining it better than I could. And trust me, using two names on here is a pain in the neck. I definately don't think I am that important- I just don't want big mouths telling my mom I am pregnant before I do. Now there is a war waiting to happen! I wish I could go back to the days when NO ONE knew about this site. I was stupid for sharing it.

Oh, Ok- I get that and find that a little odd too. I don't think anyone will care when I start posting under my real name and I really don't care who knows my secret as long as you aren't going to tell my mom before I do!

I'm totally not into guessing games, but I have no problems with people posting under aliases. I just think it makes no sense to post under a fake name and then have people guess who you are...as OP said, there goes the anonymity.
And to Secretbaby...I think almost everyone knows who you are so it's not directed at you in particular. Which is why it made no sense for a fake name.

I think just because you may not know them doesnt mean others dont know them.
EXACTLY what I was going to say. I'm sure they know some people and know that some will care. If you don't care, don't read it. Isn't that what people always say on this site?

Re: "undercover" posters
I'm always the stupid one trying to figure them out, and when they do come out, I have no idea who they are anyway!! Like a few years back on another board (maybe it was LIW, I can't remember), there was a hiding pregnant lady and she made such a HUGE stink about not letting anyone know who she was, and when she did reveal herself, I think there was more than plenty of people asking who she was anyway!

It's really all just in fun...if some don't want to play, that's just fine--then don't play. But, I do have 108 FM's from people that have enjoyed the game and the "challenge" of trying to figure out who I was by researching LIW (and another 20 or so from people congratulating me---so thank you again to all of you!!!). I'm not really even trying to "hide" from anybody else except my ex-DH....I don't have any family or friends on here--and don't even live in LI, so it was simply just for something to do.
Geez----such controversy over something so petty and silly. Ah, well....that's why I love this board. I've finally made my own drama after 4 years on LIW/LIF!!! Yippie! Woo-hoo!!!
PS> I've been doing a lot of things in the last two weeks or so that don't make sense, so, that's really not a surprising statement for me.
