I will be in Miami in the beginning of septemeber any suggestions of places we can drive to in florida to visit while we are there? can be up to 4 hours away

Drive down the Florida Keys to Key West. It's about 3.5/4 hours from Miami.

Or drive across and go to Sanibel/Captiva/Naples/Marco Island. (around 2 hours).

Definitely Key West! If you don't feel like going all the way down to Key West - some of the closer keys are Key Largo, Islamorado, and Marathon - but I would go to Key West!
