Re: Disney Hotels
The only non-disney hotel I stayed in was the Wyndham Orlando. It was pretty convenient to area attractions. The room and the grounds were really nice. The pool area was spacious - it had a bar & grill and an ice cream shoppe. There was a restaurant there but we only had breakfast which was good.
LMK if you want info about disney resorts.

I've never stayed in a non disney hotel, but I have heard a lot of good things about the marriot in downtown disney.

Re: Disney Hotels
I have stayed at the following disney resorts:
Boardwalk Pros: location -walking distance to Epcot & disney studios Lots of dining & entertainment options on the boardwalk plus you have a ton of options with the other Epcot resorts & 2 parks. Nice pool area with great slide nice airy feel to the rooms & public areas Cons: you have to go outside to the boardwalk for drinks & snacks shares a bus with the other Epcot resorts It's a big resort so some things are bit of a walk
Beach & Yacht Club Pros: location - see boardwalk restaurants are in the lobby the pool area is supposed to be best on property (I visited these resorts in the winter and didn't check it out)
Cons: bus sharing the pool doesn't appeal to me personally (but I am way in the minority on this)
Old Key West - pros: all the rooms are villas. the studios come with kitchenettes, larger rooms have full kitchens, washers & dryers. the rooms are larger boat ride to downtown disney
cons: big resort with lots of internal bus stops
Wilderness Lodge - Pros: proximity to Magic Kingdom - you can take a boat or bus nice dining options BEAUTIFUL lobby and grounds
Cons: I can't think of any
Port Orleans Riverside & Port Orleans French Quarter (they are sister resorts & share amenities)
RIVERSIDE Pros: two dining options river roost lounge - bob jackson entertain there a few nights a week - he's a blast nice pool area, good pool bar beautiful grounds have rooms that fit 5 people boat to Downtown disney they have carraige rides
RIVERSIDE Cons: it's a bit spread out, multiple bus stops shares bus with French Quarter
POFQ: Pros: Small so nothing is a long walk first stop for the POR buses so you should easily get a seat nice lounge in the lobby beignets in the food court
Cons: no sit down restaurant bus sharing
Caribbean Beach Resort Pros: huge food court big rooms
Cons: Resort is ridiculously huge main pool is currently going through major rehab and will be closed for a couple of more months
As a guest at any of the resorts you are entitled to Magical Express - the freeairport transfer service, extra magic hours, in park charging privileges, package delivery service to your room. You are also eligible to purchase the dining plan.

Re: Disney Hotels
I did not like Port Orleans/French Quarters. DH & I stayed their on our honeymoon. The staff was rude, they gave us a double bed (we are not exactly small people) and promised us a queen, then when we followed up they were so rude.

Re: Disney Hotels
I stayed on Disney Property at the Grosvenor. I loved it!! It was a great price, the rooms were very nice, pool area nice. And they have a shuttle that comes sooo often and it is barely full.
I also liked that fact that it was a walk from Downtown Disney. Literally like a 5 min walk.

Your not the first person I have heard who thought they were rude - that is horrible esp to have happen on your honeymoon! BTW the reason they didn't give you a queen - was that the moderates only have 2 doubles or 1 king (the king rooms you pay extra for - not sure if that is what you did) - but they don't have any queens at the values or moderates. Only the deluxe resorts have queen beds. They should have told you that.
Check out these sites- Allearsnet which has pics and descriptions of all the hotels, and mousesavers which has codes for disney and non disney resorts.

Re: Disney Hotels
I went to Disney in April and stayed off property. I stayed at two hotels while in Orlando. I stayed at the Gaylord Palms and Downtown Hilton. The Gaylord was nice but very much a corporate hotel. My children were pretty much they only kids there. It is definitely a convention hotel. Rooms and amenities were nice. Also charged a resort and parking fee.
I like the Hilton better. I enjoyed the Hilton due to extra magic hours. We definitely used this bonus. I also found the shuttle buses timely. The rooms at the Hilton was ok. I had a junior suite and was not impressed. No cost parking and children eat free. HTH.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP...
I was actually able to get Disney to honor our orignal reservation that I did cancel back in April... I got a Moderate Disney property for $111/nt. Its usually $165 so Its a good savings... After looking on and off property there was nothing I loved for that price... So I decided to take my chances on Coronado Springs....
I hope I made the right decision.....

Re: Disney Hotels
We stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside for our Honeymoon and LOVED it. We were having such a great time we even extended our stay (one of the great benefits of living in FL, didnt have to worry about a flight back home). Everyone was really nice to us. We had a room with a king bed, river view. The restuarant we ate at was great too. We would definately go back to the Port Orleans Riverside.
We've also stayed at the Hard Rock at Universal. We had gone in January and it was quite cold but that did not stop my DH from taking advantage of the heated pool. I didnt go in the pool but he had a blast. He was a bit bummed the slide was closed. Put him in Disney or Universal and he turns into an instant kid.
Way off grouns is the Omni hotel. My company just had their convention 2 weeks ago and stayed at the Omni. It's by champions gate. It's a bit of a ride to Disney from there but overall they really enjoyed the hotel.
I had also stayed at the All Star music with friends and we had a great time. Room was nice and we had 3 of us in the room and plenty of room.

Re: Disney Hotels
I always stay on property and I have to disagree and say that POFQ was the BEST place we ever stayed and the staff was not at all rude, and we got our King bed. We thought the gardens and theming were so romantic and the pool was amazing!
We've also stayed at All Star Music 3x!
It's not that we love it so much, but for some reason it's always the last All Star available with rooms in it. We do like it though!
The next one we want to try is caribbean beach!

Re: Disney Hotels
I hated the Port Orleans French Quarter. I thought the room was really small and dingy and not clean and pristine like a hotel room should be. We arrived really late (after midnight) and were told our bags would be delivered in the morning to not disturb us unless we wanted them that night. We chose not to have them that night and sure enough we were woken up from a dead sleep at 3am to the bellboy banging on our door. I was scared out of my mind. I did not like the doors being on the outside either.
Was not impressed at all, especially for the money. I should have spoken up when my friends picked this place. Would not recommend!

I know I am coming in late, but DH and I stayed at Coronado Springs and we liked it a lot. Rooms were clean and we didn't feel too far away. PLus the pool is ginormous and there is a nice bar right next to it.

I loved the Port Orleans Riverside. We had a great location, we were just a short walk to the lobby area. The room was very clean.
We are going back December 2009 but haven't decided where to stay yet. I would like to try a different hotel this time.

We LOVED PO Riverside! stayed in Dec. 08 and had a great time, no complaints. We did fall in love with the atmosphere at Wilderness Lodge and would like to stay here for the next trip!
