I know some moms(and dads) on LIF speak other languages besides English , I was wandering if you speak to your DC in another language other than English?

Re: do you speak to your DC in another language other than English
In our house we speak the Queens English, which can often be another language in itself.
Noah has started saying something very cute that sounds veddy veddy British. I hope to get a video of it soon....

Re: do you speak to your DC in another language other than English
We use some Armenian words with Jack. I am not fluent (I wish I was). But what we do know....we use with him. I often wonder if this is confusing for him and if it's part of the reason he's not really talking yet. He "talks" all day long. No one can understand what he's saying though.

Re: do you speak to your DC in another language other than English
My cousin only speaks spanish to her 2 year old and everyone else speaks english. It's amazing how he is able to switch from spanish to english at the drop of a hat.
I wish I were fluent in a language and could raise DD bilingual. Their little minds are like sponges with language!

We teach my daughter Spanish and Italian. Rather she taught me Spanish... and we are learning Italian together. I personaly believe it is important to teach other languages to young children.

Re: do you speak to your DC in another language other than English
my parents only speak to ds in spanish, and ds is with them the majority of the time, and dh and i in english, mostly b/c dh doesn't know spanish like I do. I also sometimes wonder if we will be confusing him, but all my friends from spain and their kids have been learning both languages from birth so i'm hoping we'll be ok.

Are you saying that you do not also speak the words? I sign when I remember to but in conjunction with speaking out loud.

My son is with my mother when I work and she speaks Italian to him all the time...I do as well, but not as often as I should....My son knows a song in Italian and I love listening to him sing it!

Re: do you speak to your DC in another language other than English
I sing nursery ryhmes in Italian to DS and randomly throughout the day when I remember, I'll speak to him in Italian. My parents will watch him when I get a job and they'll speak Italian to him
I want to carry on the tradition, though I know it'll be tough b/c my dh doesn't speak it.

I was going to ask that and didn't want to assume anything either way.
A friend of mine did what I am doing, teaching the baby some signs as she spoke the words out loud. Her baby spoke very early but only caught onto a small amount of sign language. My friend was okay with that because the baby was able to communicate early. Now the baby is older and she asks my friend to sign because she likes to watch, so I guess she will learn more sign language as she gets older.

In Italian and Spanish. As long as they hear it, they benefit from it.

I speak to Kristina in Greek Spanish and English. My grandmother and aunts see her and speak to her in Spanish or English, and then my dad and all greek family friends speak to her in Greek.
