DO you think an all girl/ school is Discriminatory? Puerto Rican Day parade ?
St. Patricks Day Parade .?
IT seems to me We all want unity but yet we continue to segregate .

i agree w/ shamrock- celebrating heritage or a holiday- what is wrong with that?
if someone wants to make up their own holiday and have a parade, they can do it

Does ever nationality have a parade?
Segragating the schools poses a lot of issues so that is something that just wouldnt work, we would be taking many steps back
I think a parade and a holiday celebration are different

irish are predominantly white
but thats not a recist pariade
neither is an african parade or italian parade...no one seems to have a problem with those because they celebrate heritage
white vs black seems discriminatory

There are all girl or all boys schools, but they are not publis schools, so I guess if you want to pay for your child to only go to school with the same sex.
And as for the parades, just because a culture is celebrating or sponsoring a parade it does not exlude anyone for attending and joining the party.

I support all-girls schools. Research has found that many girls do better in all-girls schools, for a lot of reasons. Failing at Fairness is a great book to read if you are interested in the topic of gender equity in education.
In NYC there are also a few schools that are for boys only. Being a boy in an inner-city brings a whole host of challenges, and these schools are designed to address those.

Columbus Day Parade is seen by a lot of Italians as a celebration in honor of their hertiage. Plus, there are a bunch of feasts...Feast of San Gernerro which is based in Italian heritage.

In some of the smaller ones, yes. When we go to the feast of the Beato Giacomo they are all Italian.

Feast of San Gernerro is celebrated by everyone. I am an italian and go every year however I am not sure this is the same as a the st. patrick day parade, and the puerto rican day parade

I don't know how having a parade that honors and celebrates someone's heritage and culture is segregation!  Yes, everyone's for assimilation (it seems) and that's great and all, but we are who we are because of our ancestors/background and since there is no "American" parade or culture...it's healthy to celebrate that which makes us, well, us. Even if the message gets diluted, I find it healthy to have a day to acknowledge our culture.
As for all girl schools, all boy, one color, etc. the argument was made that if someone of a different race/gender asks for admitance it has to be granted.
Certain things...like the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, etc. are good for kids...take away the pedophiles...spending time with friends learning new things is always a good thing.
What's with the desire for everyone to be "vanilla" and one flavor.  I guess because, as a Puerto Rican, I was raised knowing that all of us (Puerto Ricans) are a mixture of African, indian (Taino) and Spaniard and actually taught about that in school I grew up loving individualityand different races. One "people" (my people) can be blonde haired, blue eyed or have dark skin and coarse hair...or like my mom look totally indian...and this was perfect.
I'm not sure what mainland Americans (and I say mainland because being born in PR makes me American by birth) want...because the American "culture" is really not one that is celebrated since it's British based...we're all here from somewhere else. Unless you're American Indian...your ancestors came from elsewhere. What's wrong with celebrating that!!

Schools should not segregate by any classification - race, gender, religion.
Parades, as someone else stated, are a celebration of heritage- however, I wouldn't include a race parade in this category - but Puerto Rican, St. Patricks, whatever is an opportunity to celebrate their backgrounds. What would a "white parade" encompass? "White" people include many differenc religions and enthicities.

No, they are racist because they believe that the white race is superior to all others. And let's not forget about the lynchings.
