Testicular Biopsy

Turns out my DH had a ZERO sperm count again today Chat Icon The urologist said the scar tissue from a previous blockage has flared up again (of course it has, a week before IVF). So now my DH has to have the test. biopsy the same day as my retrieval.

Has anyone gone through this or know someone who has? Of course now this is one more thing to stress about. The urologist said he is 95-98% sure that there is sperm in there.....

Re: Testicular Biopsy

Geez Jen - I'm so sorry! Keep the faith though, IVF will work for you!

Will he be undergoing this while you are having your retrieval? Where do they do this in MT?

Yup same day as me in MT. The hits just keep on coming! Chat Icon

You know what I was thinking...I wonder if we can do a biopsy a few days before (to freeze)....Chat Icon Another thing is, I think we would have to pay out of pocket....

Re: Testicular Biopsy

That might be worth asking about (doing it a few days before). I think that would take a tremendous amount of stress off the both of you if they are able to do that.

Check out ivfconnections, there may be some info there with other ladies who have dealt with this as well.

My DH had 2 TESEs done and we are now 20 weeks pregnant so hang in there!!! We also had enough to freeze for a future cycle!!

ETA: Cornell does it the day before because they culture the sperm and make it better (stronger).....

Also, is he having a biopsy or TESE?? there is a huge difference...biopsy doesn't produce enough sperm to freeze where TESE does....

Then I guess it is TESE - we really have to clarify...thank you for the encouragement though! Chat Icon

Re: Testicular Biopsy

I don't usually post but I felt I can add some info from my experience.

I go to RMA and my husband just had this procedure done.

Our retrieval was 6/24/08. My husband needed to have this procedure done the same day as my retrieval. Dr. Bar-Chama was the urologist who did the procedure. They scheduled his procedure 30 minutes before mine. The procedure was done on the same floor where my retrieval was. The procedure was very quick and he was out in 20 minutes. He received the same anastesia that we receive for the retrieval. It was sucessful. They retrieved 26 eggs from me and they did ICSI and fertilized 22 of them. We also just found out that there was enough sperm and they were able to freeze some.

I am happy to add that the procedure was sucessful and I am a little over 5 weeks pregnant. Dr. Flisser is my Dr. and he did my retrieval and my transfer.
