Nope, I'm mean.. no tv, phone or computers in their rooms until they are living on their own

This is us too. That's how I grew up! We didn't even have a cordless phone, LOL.Chat Icon DH and I don't watch TV in our own room now, so I don't think the kids "need" one in theirs.

But I agree - do not feel badly about putting one in your DD's room! Do whatever works for your family!Chat Icon

We do not and I don't think we will as I am not a fan, however, I never say never as DD is only 11 months.

Re: Do you have a TV in DC's room?

yes, but only because my mom insisted on getting him a flatscreen for Christmas which I didn't want him to have.

BUT, the thing has only been on like 5 different times because he has no interest in TV. I've tried to get him to sit in his crib and watch baby einstein so I can go to the bathroom but he wasn't having it.

I sometimes wish that people would abide by my wishes to not have one in his room for now. I'm no oppossed to it in a few more years. I had one in my room growing up and it never really effected me one way or the other. I still had dinner with my parents every night and I still socialized with them every night too.

No, and we aren't planning on putting one in, but after 8 months, I have already learned to never say never......Chat Icon

My niece had one in her bedroom, but it was never hooked up to the cable, so they just used it for videos.

Re: Do you have a TV in DC's room?

I used to have one in DD's room when she was an infant- mainly for me for those midnight feedings- so I had something to do!

But- now that she is 21 months we do not have it in there anymore. If she wants to watch she has to go in our room or the den.

yes and it only goes on when she's sick and stays in bed or when she is watching a movie. It's rare.

Re: Do you have a TV in DC's room?

We have decided not to put a tv in Troy's room, until he is older and if he asks for it.

The Christmas after I turned 13 I got a tv/radio/clock/phone in my bedroom- it was a tiny black & white one, which I didn't watch all that much.

I know someone who put a tv w/ dvd player in her DDs room when she was around 15 mos. Yes, to each his/her own, but the reasoning (in my opinion) was not the best- her reasoning for the tv was (and I quote) "Because I can't stand watching Teletubbies"
Hi, you're the parent. If YOU don't want her watching something, don't let her! Anyway...

Nope, but DH is pushing for her to have one so we don't have to constantly turn off Sportscenter to put Noggin on. Chat Icon

Re: Do you have a TV in DC's room?

I know this is one of those topics and I'm not 100% where I am on this, but I think it depends on the child.

I had a TV in my room since about 8 years of age. I hardly ever watched it to be honest and today DH and I do NOT have one in our bedroom and DH is totally opposed to it. As a kid I was more interested in listening to music and sports, so I'd do backwalkovers and practice my gymnastics dancing and jumps in my bedroom before turning on the tube. I remember watching it when I was sick and maybe an hour or so every few days or if I had a favorite show at the time I'd watch that. I can't say now how I'll feel about DD having a TV at this point. I may if she's like I was, but knowing that supposedly kids exercise less today than we did I may have a different opinion as she gets older. I know there will not be computer's in bedrooms, those are way too dangerous and need to be closely monitored. I thought we'd not allow any TV for her until after she was 2, but the other day she watched Walle wtih us... I don't think we "damaged" her.

Re: Do you have a TV in DC's room?

totally fine Hill I got my first tv when i was 5. Never forgot that christmas!!!

FYI dont have problems sleeping, actually can not sleep with a tv on. The negatives of a tv come when kids are teens and are looking for things they should not be on tv. But to be honest they are going to do that with a tv in their room or the one in the living room once you go to bed.

Come one we all did it at one point.
