Loss of stamina?
I've been running now for several months and am following a training plan for a 10K I'm doing in Sept.
2 days per week, I run with DS in his jogging stroller. Usually I have no issue. It takes about 1 mph off my usual stride but I can usually run.
Today, I ran with him but had to stop a few times. It sucked because I felt like a new runner again. I usually get so much joy out of my runs but I came home feeling like crap.
Any ideas on what it could be the cause? I'm healthy, eat right and have been getting sleep. I'm at a loss here.

Re: Loss of stamina?
I have been running for a few years and for some reason last week I was so slow and winded for like 3 days. Usually I run 6-8 miles a day, but last week, I ran 2 miles and had to stop and walk for a bit and then continued on and had to stop again. I think sometimes it just happens. Maybe your body just needed a rest?

Re: Loss of stamina?
It could be just needing a rest. I did my usual longer run on Sunday but stopped .5 mile short of what I wanted to do because I started feeling tired. Maybe it's just my body fighting something off. I've just not had it happen before.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Loss of stamina?
Yeah that happens to me every now and again. When I feel like I really need to stop I usually listen to my body because it is for good reason. Sometimes though I think it's completely mental and I just have to push through it. When I think it's mental I really think about why I want to stop - am I in pain, am I dehydrated etc.
That being said it seems like you are doing AWESOME I try to give myself at least 2 back-to-back days in a row where my body is resting. Not sure if you can do that but it helps for the longer runs.

Thanks. I'm going to take the next couple of days off and, if I do anything, either walk or bikeride. If I'm still feeling out of it on Thursday, I'll switch my rest day with my run day and run on Friday.
Thanks everyone! I know it's completely normal to have off days. I just didn't expect it to come out of nowhere.

Re: Loss of stamina?
are you getting enough water before your run? If I run earlier in the day, I try to drink enough water, but sometimes I go right out and I don't feel right.
Also, the humidity and heat came back yesterday - we were spoiled Sun and Mon - I felt a little sluggish b/c of it as well.

Re: Loss of stamina?
Thanks everyone for the responses. I'm running again later this afternoon so I'll see what happens then. I drink water regularly thoughout the day so I know I was hydrated. Maybe it was just and off day. Hopefully it won't happen again today.

Re: Loss of stamina?
This happens to me as well. This past week I was on the mill instead of outside due to rain and I don't know what it was but I stopped a few times both days...and I'm someone who ran a marathon with no rest breaks..just a slow down for water!
I take it as a sign that I need a break...my body is tired and I probably need an extra rest day that week!
Good Luck and happy running

Re: Loss of stamina?
you could definately be over training. My sports therapist said that one should not run more than 2 days in a row. So, if you do 2 consecutive days, take one day rest.
I hope it's just a matter of fatigue. I know, it stinks

How did it go Reese?
It went well! I ended up having to run last night on the mill because of the weather. I did 1.5 miles at a 3 incline at a 10 min mile pace and then .5 miles at a 10 incline at a 12 min mile pace. I was tired at the end but was able to run the whole distance. Yah!
I am supposed to do my long run on Sunday so we'll see what happens then.
Thanks so much for the support. I love this board!

Thanks! Today I did 4.2 miles with my son in his BOB so I think I'm over whatever it was.

awesome!!! I never want to take the BOB out on anything more than 3 miles - so I give you tons of credit! But I need to get the tires filled - I think that's what has been dragging me down (+ 60+ pounds of kid LOL)
