Help with Certification in Math 5-9-Sorry LONG!
I have my N-6 Certification. When I got my job on LI, I taught 6th grade and loved it. 3 yrs alter I was moved to 2nd grade. Then my district moved the 6th grade to Middle School. I didn't put in to move that year when it was being done because I was a new mom and didn't want to make the change whenthe district really wasn't sure how 6th grade was going to work. (That's a whole other story.)
Anyway since then I have been putting in for a transfer and have been denied due to the "TALENT POOL" that has been applying to our district. Supposedly all these people have been teaching 6th grade or have this awesome experience. HELLO, I taught 6th in the district for 3 years!!
Does anyone have a 5-9 Extention on their certification? This is what my distric t isd looking for now. I'm afraid the only way I'll get back to 6th is by getting this extention.
I've ordered my transcripts for BOCES to look at but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this. Is it an Advanced Certificate I would have to get or if I have enough credits from my undergrad, which I think I might do I just get an extention that way?
Sorry to ramble. TIA!!

Re: Help with Certification in Math 5-9-Sorry LONG!
I am in a similiar situation in regards to certification. I am currently 1-6 but I am teaching 6th and 7th in a middle school on NYC. IN order to not be on the chopping block I have to get my certification in science.
I called the Nassau Boces and was told that I need to have 30 credits in the specific area, im my case biology. Once I have the 30 credits I can apply for either the 5-9 biology extension or the 7-12 biology. Obviously if this is true I will appy for the 7-12 because it gives me more opportunities.
Oh, and the credits can be undergraduate and does not have to be completed as a degree. For example, I am working on my 30 credits by taking bio classes at Nassau Community College.
Hope that helps!

I'm intereted in this too. I found the following info on the NYSED site. But I'm not sure if I quite understand it. This is for a Permanent Extension, Mathematics 7-9 Extension. I think we qualify for this but still not sure. I'm interested to see if anyone can figure it out.
