As an Obama supporter I was hoping she'd be terrible.
I was wrong. She's a GREAT speaker - darn. Now I'm really excited about the debates.
But I found some of her lines frightening - one of her biggest applause getters - "Obama is more concerned with whether we've read the terrorists their rights." (something like that) is an arrogant, reductive view of an administration's gross abuses at Guantanamo, crumpling up of the Geneva convention tenets, and our controversial patriot act/big brother/wiretapping governance. . . I found this line in particular eerily similar to Bush's arrogant, 'go it alone' foreign policy.
But that line about the styrophone colums was very very funny.
. . . and Governor - you campaigned FOR the bridge to nowhere - and hired a lobbyist to get 25 million in earmarked spending for Alaska - yet that didnt make it into the speech.

I thought she gave a great speech as well.
I loved the way she handled her family situation too - with there being challenges and joys and the challenges (aka Bristol's pregnancy) also bring joy. Very, very well put.

ETS: I didn't love the body lanuguage between Sarah and McCain though, i don't know, something seemed off about it. I'll be watching more closely to see how they get along.

I don't know which way I'm going with this election personally, but I was very skeptical of McCain's decision to have Palin as his running mate. However, I must say, I was pretty darn impressed by her last night. Girl knows how to deliver a speech and capture an audience. She's got moxy

She's a great speaker, she's got an adorable voice, she's charming, she's a beautiful woman and seems like a wonderful mom with a great family...BUT...I was not impressed...she didn't sell it to me. It wasn't powerful and convincing that McCain and she will do their best for this country.

I thought she did really well. Some of the things she said I fully agreed with and other i didn't. However, as a woman, I was so proud. Whether you agree with her or not, I think most women will feel somewhat proud - I could be very wrong though!

she was fantastic. witty, sarcastic, tough. I like when her face wrinkles right before she makes a strong statement...it looks like she MEANS what she is saying and believes in.
I wish her beliefs were in line with my own.
but I give her mucho credit for not pandering, and actually believing in them.

I caught this too...at the end when he was greeting everyone...maybe he made a pass at her  he does like beauty queens

She was very good. Do I agree with her? Hell no. Will I vote for her ticket? Hell no (though I would have given McCain some final consideration if he had chosen a running mate whose views are more in line with his own).
She was good though and deserves applause for her speech. Could not have been easy.
And thanks to a PP for reminding everyone she was for the bridge to nowhere, until she wasn't.

I thought her delivery was good and that she proved that she's tough enough to dish out the criticism of the democratic platform and candidates. She is the "iron fist in a velvet glove" and she will be a formidable opponent.
Having said that, if you dish it out you have to take it and I did not like her accusing the media of picking on her because they are questioning her experience. (Her experience (or lack thereof) is a fair area of inquiry as is any inquiry into Obama's experience (or lack thereof)).
While I thought she gave a good speech, I do not agree with her position on global warming (she's a skeptic), evolution, not teaching kids about safe sex in school, access to birth control and the right to choose, even in the case of rape and incest, or her policies on energy or taxes, so I will not vote for McCain/Palin ticket.

I fell asleep last night BUT I read the transcript online today and I can't wait to go home and SEE her actually deliver it. I am trying REALLY hard to wait until the debates to pick my candidate though.
But, to paraphrase Dani, I will totally be air humping later when I watch it.

yes, some did comment on the awkwardness of him last night too -- a lot of times we forget that he sustained a ton of debilitating injuries as a prisoner of war -- making it impossible for him to completely raise his arms up or move them as much as one of us would be able to. and, it seemed, last night that it kind of hindered his movement on stage - especially noticeable next to people who can move about just fine.
