I agree that she gave a good speech. I did find her voice somewhat annoying but that has nothing to do with anything.

I don't agree with her views so I won't vote for McCain but I commend her for her accomplishments and poise.

Rudy, on the other hand made my stomach hurt.

as soon as i saw the image of Lower Manhattan on the screen, he got the roll eyes.

and I VOTED for him for mayor Chat Icon

it's really frightening to see how gun ready they are.

not just Iraq...I agree we cannot leave and destabilize the nation...my brother served two tours there and lost MANY friends, so I don't take the war there lightly AT ALL.

but Russia...Georgia...North Korea, Iran..

the way they describe it, they'd shoot first, ask questions later.

I LIKE the idea of trying to talk to people on THEIR level.

I didn't like the Israeli rhetoric either.

I don't think having a foreign policy of "America is the best and we will shoot you if you don't do what WE think you should do" is the best one to put forth in the world" Chat Icon

Re: ROCK ON SISTA (Ahem...I mean Sarah)!!!!

She delivered a good speech, seems like a formidable opponent and was funny at times. She threw a lot of jabs at Obama, which was fine but I thought she was down right belittling. I would have liked to hear her articulate her stance on issues. I also heard nothing about what she and McCain will do for the people of this country or the economy.

I don't agree with her views and will not vote for them, but I am glad to see a women in the position she's in.

it was fear mongering. Don't like it. Rudy really turned me off. They are not detailing anything new. There's nothing new..no new plans for making anything better.

And healthcare? Where was that?

I found her very charasmatic, but I continue to disagree with her political positions. The speech lacked substance, and I am interested to see if John McCain is as elusive tonight.

I cannot STAND Rudy. And Judith Nathan sitting there smirking in the audience...what did she ever do other than steal someone else's man?

Palin did a good job of delivering the speech written by someone else, but I thought there was too much bashing the media and other candidates, and not enough of what she has done and will do. Oh, washington media hates me, feel bad for me, boo hoo. You need a thick skin to be in politics, and if she can't take it, she should back out now.

"They say I don't have experience...Do they know what my job ENTAILS!?" but there wasn't an answer to that, other than the cheers from the audience. What DOES she know about foreign policy? What does being a pitbull hockey mom have to do with being a VP? Is that good enough preparation--because there should be a lot more candidates in that case.

On the surface, it was a glossy speech, but I don't think it went deep enough.

And it was funny--the pitbull joke, meant to seem so off the cuff, was on the screen for her to read, along with all the rest of her lines. She did a good job reading what someone else wrote. Doesn't prove to me that she's got what it takes.

But it does prove that she deserved Miss Congeniality...Maybe instead of the VP title.

I also couldn't stand how she kept referring to herself as "gal" and her DH as "my guy."

If you want to be a world leader, grow the he!! up and refer to yourself as a woman.

Easily.

If you are a pro choice person who doesnt want creationism taught in public schools, doesnt want a librarian fired because she refused to ban books that Palin found 'objectionable,' wants environmental protection and isn't a 'skeptic' about global warming, wants the minimum wage increased, wants gays to have the right to marry, wants diplomacy over force, wants the geneva convention upheld, wants the Kyoto agreement brought back, then Palin is not your pick.

Not to say she can't be anyone else's pick - but she's not mine.

Everyone does have a speechwriter, which is why we really shouldn't say "I liked what she had to say!"

You can say I liked how she looked, how she spoke, how she pointed constantly, but judge her on her past performance instead of what she was reading.

And that goes for any politician, not just her.

Want me to bump one of the 1,000,000 Obama threads, or google him for you?

If you agree with what their ticket stands for, great.

She is the govenor of a state of 670,053. Suffolk County ALONE has 1,469,715.

Oh wait, I forgot that as mayor of Wasilla, Palin was in charge of the city Police Department, consisting of 25 officers.

In 2007, the Alaska Creamery Board recommended closing Matanuska Maid Dairy, an unprofitable state-owned business. Palin objected, citing concern for dairy farmers and a recent infusion of $600,000 in state money. Palin subsequently replaced the entire membership of the Board of Agriculture and Conservation. The new board reversed the decision to close the dairy.

There is one theme to her tenure as Govenor...She gets rid of anyone who disagrees with her.

Pork, I don't think ANYONE is really qualified to be President...there is NO OTHER JOB like it in the world. and the job can vary greatly from year to year...some years are bliss...others are war filled horrors...you never know and I think it's even less possible to be fully prepared. just look at how it AGES these men...it's a stress and a trial like no other.

I daresay it's more demanding than any other PRESIDENCY or leadership role in the world.

I am looking for someone to in the very least, want what I want for this country, and have a plan to go about at least TRYING to accomplish it.

someone who's ideas and ideals sit well with me, and that I think will help/make a difference.

i don't post much and i know this might not go down well, but i find it very hard to admire any woman who goes back to work 3 days after having a baby, downs or no downs. that might be setting back the womens movement and i know it wouldn't be said about a man but she's his mommy. i know going back when my daughter was 5 months (after unpaid FMLA leave for most of that) was hard enough. maybe by my 5th kid i'd be racing back to work fast too. But i guess this is a whole other topic about maternity leave in this country. this is one topic where if we really believe in "family first" then we should take leave from our european neighbors on maternity leave. if you have to go back to work to pay the bills then that's fair enough and difficult enough but i can't relate to going back that early by choice. JMO

besides that i found her a bit too catty. don't tell me about the opposition, tell me about what you're going to do.

I haven't had the chance to watch her give her speech, but I read it online. Perhaps it's better to do it that way?? I don't know, but the thing that really struck me about it is how she refers to the rest of the world as "dangerous" and "evil". IMO, that just does more to isolate the US - which really, really scares me! She criticizes Obama for wanting to "heal the world" - maybe he's being a bit idealistic, but I think she should at least make an effort to acknowledge that there is a world out there that's not entirely horrible. And that as the most powerful country in the world we should make even a fraction of the effort we take in protecting our assets in helping others who are in need. I'd much rather have an administration who knew when to bow out of a situation than one that felt the need to win a war at all costs - so her "victory" bits really put me off.

I wonder how other people feel about her just having gotten her passport two (I think it was two, right?) years ago? That might be for another thread though.

Also, I thought there was way too much emphasis on domestic oil and not enough focus on exploring other energy sources.

so, i'm gathering, that's a "no" on the whole will you answer 'how is he qualified' question? being that everyone keeps listing what palin has done and/or just states that being qualified really doesn't matter.

I stated I don't think either of them are "qualified" so I don't consider that to be part of why I am voting.

neither of them can come to me with a resume that says "I was the leader, or vice leader, of the most powerful nation on the planet. I LED (not just served with) the most powerful miliary in the world. I have met and had extensive relations talks with every major, and some non major, leaders of the nations of the world. I have balanced billion and trillion dollar budgets. I have reformed a dying social security system and social health insurance system. And I have done these things without alienating any of the other world leaders or the constituents of the country I serve"

none of them can tell me this...and THIS is what I consider qualified.

ANYONE else, with ANY less experience...I am giving them my faith. that's it.

To me--the fact that people who disagree with her know the facts about her and what she stands for shows that we know how to research the candidates and make decisions based on evidence. To respond on a thread about Palin about what we don't agree with seems appropriate.

Do you really need people to research the candidates for you? Type Obama in google and you'll see everything he's done, and in turn be able to make an educated decision. This isn't the easy way out, but just to say that all of us who don't support Palin give reasons WHY we don't agree with her, and did the research--how about those that don't agree with Obama do the same.
