This poll reinforces for me why it is so important we preserve the right to choose.

i know a few ppl who have had 1
i know somoene who has had 5
I don't understand how you can do that 5 times! Assuming the fetus is healthy. Isn't 1x tramatic enough? And if it isn't... what the hell is wrong with you? How could you get yourself into that situation so many times I just don't get it.
me either! shes not my friend, but some girl i knew from the 8th grade....she blamed it on taking antibiotics and BC at the same time and saying it didnt work dont leave it in then!!!!!!!

well, technically, antiobiotics do reduce the potentcy of the BCP but again, to use abortion as a form of BC is beyond my comprehension. I just can't wrap my brain around it.

I'm not surprised by the poll results. I've never had one, but know at least five women who have (when we were younger.) There are thousands of women on this website - again, I'm not surprised by these numbers.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
I would post my honest opinion on the results of the poll, but I know I would upset and offend quite a few people, and I'm not one to do that.
I WILL say this, and you can make of it what you will: I know someone who had two abortions, simply because she was not careful/not ready to be a mom. Now that she actually WANTS to have a child, she can't seem to get pregnant. As someone who had trouble conceiving, I can totally understand the sadness and frustration that she is experiencing...but on the same token, I can't help but feel that she's a hypocrite to feel that way. You can agree or disagree with me, but I don't even pretend to have sympathy for her. It's not in my capacity--it's just not there.
I did want to share my opinion without horribly offending anyone...but I do want to be one voice of someone who struggled and will continue to struggle with IF in the future. I think those of us that struggle to get pregnant may have a slightly different perspective on the matter--at least I do.

WOW.
ONE.
ONE person who gave their child up for adoption. I cannot say I am shocked, but I am disappointed and saddened by the results of the poll.
Whoever you are, I want you to know that in my opinion you are VERY brave and a hero.
I feel the same way. Saddened. I'm sad that so many women had to make such a difficult decision in their lives.
And I agree with you...to the person who gave their child up for adoption, I can't even imagine the strength that it took to do such a wonderful thing. As the best friend of an adoptive parent, you can't even imagine the joy in both the parent & the child's life that you've given.
I agree with Barb and Dina on being disappointed and saddened by the results of the poll, and in admiration for the birth mother who gave their baby up for adoption instead of terminating.
As a Aunt to TWO babies who were given up for adoption.... I have seen firsthand the many emotions involved in giving a child up for adoption and seeing the baby be held by their adoptive parents for the first time.

I agree, my opinions of when life begins is so different now. And knowing what it takes to concieve a life and what a miracle it is, I have a hard time with abortion. However, I am having a hard time with where I stand on the lawful aspect. It breaks my heart that people can discard a life so easily, one that I tried SO hard to create.

No attack here! But why are you disappointed? From what I am reading from all the abortion posts, one of the solution to abortion is adoption.
So that person did just that. And now you are disappointed. I am very confused but what you are saying.
I feel it's like she can't have an abortion but she MUST raise that child too. What happen to all those talks from pro-lifers about adoption?
Maybe I misunderstood your answer.

I think she meant she was disappointed that just one person chose adoption, whereas fifty-some odd went the other route.
My feelings are this: most women who have abortions just want to deal with it quickly and move on. Most times the pregnancy did not result from a loving union, rather it is something they want to emotionally detach from. That is why abortion is the "easier" (I use that term loosely, as I can't imagine that making such a decision is "easy") less emotionally involved route. At least with abortion, "no one has to know."
With adoption- my goodness, there are such emotions involved. Regardless of whether or not that baby was conceived wanted or not, to go full term, then give it away, I can't imagine

Please know there is NOTHING easy about having an abortion.
I understand you're coming from a different perspective, but unless you've actually had an abortion, I think it's VERY unfair of you to make that comment.
I would NEVER comment on someone going through IF issues as I have not gone through that process so I know NOTHING about it.

I never had one
I know plenty of people that have
1 girl will most likely never be able to have a child b/c she was in the military when she got one- and it wasn't pretty
so I don't judge anyone that has had to make that decesion and I am thankful that I was never in that situation- but I have been on the pill for 12 years at this point (since I was 19)

Beth to your point, I only started taking the pill after I had my abortion. I was 18 years old, since then I've never had any kind of accident.
I think if our kids were educated more on BC and encouraged to start using it we may see a decline in the amount of abortions performed each year.

to all of the women who made a choice not to have a baby in their life (by abortion or giving it up) I hope you have found some peace.
to the one person (so far, and whomever comes after) that gave the child up for adoption, I pray as I am sure you do every day, that your baby was placed into the welcoming arms of a loving family.
to those who will get an abortion in the future, for whatever reason,
to those who will give a baby up for adoption in the future,
to all those children sitting in foster care b/c for some reason people don't WANT children older than infancy....I am so so sorry. may God bless you and keep you.
God Bless your Heart and Mind!
That was so very well said, and I agree 1000000000000000000000000000% with you.

Yes, I voted.
I am not ashamed to say I had an abortion. I was 18 years old and it was the right decision for ME.
Was it THE most difficult decision I've EVER had to make and live with? YES.
Do I regret it? NO.
Would I ever do it again? NO. But my situation now is VASTLY different from my situation THEN. I know for sure if I had been dating my husband at the time, we would have kept the baby. I know this b/c we've talked about it.
I felt as someone who HAS lived through this FIRST HAND I would share my experience and maybe give some REAL insight to this debate.
I'm sure there will be some of you who will read this and draw your own conclusions about me and that's fine. You have every right to do this; but just know there are A LOT of girls out there living this and who knows, you just might know one of them.
If anyone has a question, feel free to ask, I will answer it the best I can.
I appreciate your honesty and candor. You should be applauded for not being afraid to post on this topic.
While I have never been in that situation, I respect your difficult decision.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
I voted in the poll and unlike the one poster who admitted to having an abortion....I am not brave enough to come out and say it...so I am hiding under a fake name.
When I was younger I had an abortion and it was the most difficult decision of my life. I do not wish that upon my worst enemy and I don't want people to think that its something that is taken lightly. For the rest of my life I have to live with my choice, no one else but me. I value those opinions who are pro-life and such, but I know that for ME personally what I did was the right thing. There was no way I was fit to be a mother when I found out I was pregnant. Am I scared that when I DO want to conceive with my DH that I might have an issue? Absolutely...but that is something that we will have to deal with when we are ready to start TTC.
It wasn't a form of birth control for me--I did it one time and I sincerely can NOT imagine doing it more than once. WHen I have heard of those using it for that purpose--it makes me ill. Simply because I know how it felt when it did it just once, and its a feeling that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...
I know several women who have had told me that they have had abortions and several who told me that they never have. I do not think that anyone has ever lied to me about whether they have but I am sure that I have some friends who avoid bringing up the issue if they aren't comfortable.
For whatever reason, it seems that a lot of the people I know who have had abortions have had more than one. I wish that were not the case. I am still surprised by the results of this poll.
I have never had an unplanned pregnancy and it's really not too much trouble to use both condoms and the pill. (Ok, there were times when it was either one or the other but I believe in both at the same time.) I've never had any sort of STD either and I hope that my child will use some sort of "double protection" before he is ready to have children.

ITA. Plus, someone told a story aout a teenager who "blamed" antibiotics. I don't get that (the blaming, not the OP of that story). Any time you have sex, you can get pregnant. Period. You may take steps to reduce those odds, but you have to be prepared to assume the risk. Whatever choice you make onece you're pregnant, it will be hard if you're not ready, and people need to understandthat every time they have sex, they're takng a risk that they need to be able to deal with maturely.
