Need some advice about a mess-up at work
My boss is out and of course I mess up Long story short it's not the end of the world but I made a decision with good intention but it wasn't my place to make the decision.
So my question....should I e-mail my boss to let her know what happened and apologize - knowing full well that we have to talk about this on Monday? Or, do I wait until Monday to discuss?
I was thinking to send her the e-mail because her boss will definitely speak to her about it when she returns (if there isn't already an e-mail waiting) - her boss already spoke to me. It can't be changed...what's done is done.
What would you do?

Send your boss an email explaining your decision. Keep it short, you don't want to sound like you are babbling on and on.
Just let your boss know this was your decision, and her boss has an issue with it and you'll discuss it on Monday.
Its better to be honest about it. Don't try and plead your case over the email, I'd rather do it in person, when things are in writing people can interpet it how ever they choose.

ITA. And this way she can't say 'why didn't you tell me about it when it happened?'

I would send an email explaining everything and then I would send her a meeting invite to discuss in person.

Send the e-mail and just list the facts of what happened. No need to "over-apologize" if you know what I mean.

Only you know your boss, is she the type that would get annoyed at an interruption of this type?
