Going back to school for teaching.
I have to go part time very slowly until my children are in school full time. I have lots of questions. I really want to do this but I am not sure which degree I need. I heard you need 2 yrs for preschool but the pay is really low. I believe you need 4 yrs for Kindergarden, first and second. Can someone tell me if this is the case? Also if you could pm me the average salaries. I am not sure if I would just go for 2 yrs anyway because I would really like to teach & I'm thinking of preschool at the moment. I guess you figure out which age group you want to teach when in school. Thank you.

Re: Going back to school for teaching.
I wouldn't go just for one grade such as preschool since there aren't that many of those jobs in a school.
I got certified before the new requirments went into effect. So I think now it's early childhood and then 1-5 or 1-6?
I would do whichever can give you a wide variety of options.
You should go a talk to an advisor or admissions counselor at a college.

Re: Going back to school for teaching.
Not sure about salaries, but there are two different certifications:
Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2) Childhood (1-6)
You didn't mention if you are getting a Bachelors or Masters. Full-time for Childhood Ed, my masters took me 2 years. It took Early Childhood students the same amount of time. The program requirements didn't really change based on the certification, at least it didn't at Hofstra.
When I went in for my masters program, I had my heart set on grade 4. Since then, I actually applied for my Early Childhood Certification because I loved Kindergarten so much after subbing in it. So it's possible to change your mind! Good luck!

Re: Going back to school for teaching.
I have an associates degree in a totally different field so I figured a few courses may transfer over. My children are very young so I have to go to school and only take a course or two at a time. Its going to take me a long time to get a teaching degree because I can only go part time. Its the only thing I can see myself doing though. I was hoping two years would get me somewhere because 4 years at this slow pace seems like its going to take forever.
