So I am almost done reading Twilight...

and I don't get all the hype... Am I missing something? I mean, I like it, but am not blown away by it.

I personally don't think you're missing anything--see my post further down. Chat Icon

The more I think about it, the less likely I am to read the next installment...

OK.. I finished it last night, and while I liked it, I didn't think it was too much different than other vampire stories I have read. I used to be so into vampire books when I was a teenager, and I would have loved this series 10-15 years ago, but now its just ok.
I will read the rest of the books, but I don't see what the fuss is all about. I was expecting another Harry Potter.

While I love Twilight, this is no Harry Potter series. I think it is a love it or hate it type of book.

I prefer Twilight to Harry Potter, though JK Rowling is definitely a superior writer. The romance aspect of Twilight captivates me much more than the magic and fantasy of Harry Potter, though I love both.

Funny...I just finished Twilight myself and don't get the hype....I'm going to read them all since they were given to me, but I really don't think it was that wonderful.
It was an easy read, but that's about it....

It was easy to read and held my interest - but it's by no means 'great literature'.

I struggled through the 2nd book and even though the 3rd was bought for me.. I barely skimmed it. Just no interest.

The 3rd was sooo much better than the 2nd. The first book was the best, the second "eh" and the fourth "eh."

I LOVE the series, but it was more like "sigh, why isnt my life like this" and a fantasy type read. I understand it is a YA book and all but maybe since I was a nerd and reading great literature as a teenager - I won't recommend it to my nieces.

I read it and I did not get the hype either....it was ok.

I had already bought the second one so I guess I will read it.

Not sure if I will bother with the 3rd and 4th.

I loved all of them, in a day-dreaming, I wish my life was romantic like that kind of way. Its easy reading, I read all 4 books in 10 days. I can't wait to see the movie!

Just finished reading it a few days as well. It was a silly easy read and it did keep my interest. Not great by any stretch but I'd read the others just to see what happens.

I think it is the romance of it all, definitely not the writing style. Its a little childish as far as that but I loveeee the way she describes Edward... it makes me Chat Icon

Re: So I am almost done reading Twilight...

I'm really glad to hear all your responses as to why you like this book so much - it helps me sort of understand the hype. I pretty much hated this book from the moment i picked it up.
It does make sense that its sort of an 'escape' and pure fantasy, but i still think its just really childish writing so i couldn't get into it at all.
There are so many other books out there that are written much better and are still full of passionate love.

I bought it because i've heard sooooo much about it and had to see what all the fuss was about.
I didn't buy that the 2 of them fell madly in love just like that.. they didn't even get to know each other, just a few glances and then all of a sudden they were in mad passionate love? i just couldn't relate and kept Chat Icon Chat Icon every time i picked it up.

oh well, to each their own
