Would you go on this interview? UPDATE
I am unhappy at my job- have been for over a year. I am a new mom who works FT at a company with very little paid time off, and no perks like telecommuting. I miss DS a lot.
I was asked to interview at another company- but the salary is about 20% less than what I currently earn. The reason for this is that the new job is in the same field, but in a different role that I don't have much experience in, but like a lot more than what I did in the past!
This new position would also offer much more paid time off (over 2 weeks worth), plus flex time and working from home. I would see my son a lot more than I do now, doing something I like more. I just know my DH will object...
UPDATE- I was correct- my DH does not want me to interview for this position. He thinks it will be a waste of time. He feels that the way the economy is right now- taking any kind of pay cut does not make any sense. I disagree with him, because my mom watches our baby so we do not pay for childcare, and we have enough savings that we could cover our bills for almost a year if both of us lost our jobs. I am a little upset with him right now.

Yes, go on the interview. They may even offer you more money than you thought. The extra time off plus you enjoying your role more sounds worth it to me.

Re: Would you go on this interview?
I would!
The extra time off plus you enjoying your role more sounds worth the 20% decrease to me as long as you can afford to take the cut.
I recently took a new job with less perks and about $$35k less than I was making in the city. Being 15 minutes away from home and having a better work/life balance was worth it to me.

That is good to know that this is working out for you! As a new Mom- my career focus has definitely changed! It is more about balance than money. We could still be comfortable on my reduced salary. My commuting time would also be cut in half.

Re: Would you go on this interview?
Honestly - it's changed my life. I can go home for lunch, run errands that would normally waste the weekend mornings etc...
You have nothing to lose by going on the interview and checking it out

I would try and go on the interview because you never know what they will offer. They might be able to work with you. Good luck!!

Re: Would you go on this interview?
Definitely go on the interview. I took a huge cut in my base salary when I went back to work on a p/t basis after DS was born and while it was an adjustment at first, the quality of life far outweighs the other stuff for me. If you can afford it, I'd say go for it.

I would go on the interview. What have you got to lose?
At the very least, you get to practice your interviewing skills.
At best, you move a step forward to getting the job you want- and demanding a salary you can accept.
