Am I being too paranoid? Food related....

I really want to go to the chocolate show in Novembeer. It is in the city and a lot vendors put up booths and put out samples of chocolate. i want to go, but I wonder, since so many people put their hands in the samples, if there is a chance of getting some type of bacteria or disease that can hurt the baby. I know about listeriosis and some of the other infections, which is why I stay away from sushi, cold cuts, etc.

But is there a danger in something like this?

I would go. You can get just as sick if you eat a snazzy rest.

You know how many restaurant workers are putting their bare hands on the food they prepare when you go out to eat at legit. restaurants....

yes, they're supposed to wash them every time and wear gloves....but they don't. Trust me, i worked in restaurants for years...you're fine, have a great time and make sure you eat yummy chocolates. Chat Icon

Yes, I worked in the catering business, so i know all about the gross stuff that happens. But I figured that instead of 1, 2, maybe 3 people with their gross hands in the food, this would be like 1,000 people b/c everyone is grabbing for the chocolate. Chat Icon I thought it may increase risk.

Most of the vendors will be VERY hygeine conscious - they'll use tongs or other utensils, and probably have their giveaways individually wrapped. If there's a booth that seems "off" (i.e. unsanitary) just skip it.

THink of it this way, you'll be exposed to more germs if you take the subway that day -- and if you use an ATM, fuggedaboutit!!!

I think that is being a little overly cautious, but bottom line is do what you are comfortable with. If you go and are constantly going to be questioning yourself, its not worth it. Now here's an important question: When/Where is this chocolate show?

I don't think it's too paranoid but I am a very cautious person when it comes to food (always was).

Just the mere thought of random people touching something i might eat would make me steer away from eating, even when not pg. To me workers in a restaurant are different....you increase your odds with the more people that touch your food. JMO

Thanks for everyones opinion! Here is the info on the chocolate show, on Nov 7 - 9 in manhattan, for those who are interested. It really is a chocolate lovers dream. There are many many vendors that let you sample and then sell you chocolate. They even have clothes on display made of chocolate!

Mmmmmmm Chooooocolate.........

I recommend getting tickets in advance, even though it is slightly more money. The first year we went, we waited outside for 2.5 hours b/c we didn't have tickets!!!!! Chat Icon Then, we got inside, stuffed our faces, and were sick within 20 minutes. Definitely pace yourself!

That is probably something I would have thought when I was pregnant with my daughter, so I would definatly say you are being paranoid.

Enjoy the chocolate!!
