Newborns & Congestion

I feel so bad for my 10 week old DD. She gets so congested at night. I give her the saline drops and clean out her nose in the morning. I have even woken her up some nights to clean her nose out bc it sounds like she is having trouble breathing.

I am told this is normal but I just feel so bad.

We have a humidifier but it doesnt seem to make a difference. The heat is on but low , like 64. She has also been sleeping in her motions glider bc she is almost sitting up in that, that helps too.

I remember that. I felt really bad too.

Just keep using the saline spray and humidifier. Have you tried a aspirator??
If no, ask her dr if you can use it.

Re: Newborns & Congestion

Sitting in the bathroom with the door closed and the shower on the hottest works really well for DS. Loosens the stuff right up.

DS now snores thanks to teething and stuffy noses.

I have also heard you can put eucalyptus oil in the humidifier. I haven't tried it yet, but will as soon as I remember to buy it Chat Icon

Go to www.californababy.com they have a cold and flu oil you put in the bath! I swear by it. It works so well, my daughter never had any congestion that lasted more then 2-3 days when I used it.

Re: Newborns & Congestion

My DD is nine weeks (and has the same cute outfit yours has on!) and has terrible congestion!!! We have actually had to have her sleep upright in her baby seat when it is really bad.

Pediatrician recommended saline drops throughout the day to keep her nasal passages moist and moving. This helps a lot whether the congestion is moist or dry. We do this 3x day, approximately.

Also, our savior has been the Germ Guardian humidifier sold at BRU. It is smalll, attractive, quiet, and needs no filter change. She actually started sleeping more at night since we started using it! Our older girls have allergies and we have used humidifiers before, but this is by far the best one we have ever used (it is $50).

There is an infant vicks. But I've only used it on DS' feet.

I think you mean DS, not DHChat Icon
