insurance help
My homeowners insurance is getting dropped from Allstate, apparently they are dropping everyone on Long Island due to Hurricane predictions...anyway, it got me searching out there and I started running quotes on my auto as well (which all has been with for over 10 years with Allstate) Geico has beat the rate by 75 a month! I just feel uneasy about making the move and going past my comfort zone. Anyone out there have them, know anything, used them before I make the switch? Once I leave Allstate I will loose my long term customer and other things with them..I need the push...any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: insurance help
Geico was great for my auto insurance.
I had them for about 5 years and they decided to drop me after we had some violations. DH..some is relative.
We went to Allstate...how ironic.
They were by far the lowest priced company. We had some claims and they paid them quickly and took care of everything.

Re: insurance help
They are cheaper but they do not insure homes on LI and if they do it is really expensive. Although it was cheaper I went with a company that would insure both my car and house so that I could get umbrella insurance as well. I use to have geico before we owned a house.

Re: insurance help
and what did you think?
I know homeowners insurance on li is going to be hard to find, from what I understand, there are only a handful out there right now that insure...but, for Geico to be that much cheaper a month, I couldnt believe it..just nervous

Re: insurance help
GEICO might be cheaper now, but just be careful - they don't always run your driver's license & accident hiistory when giving their initial quote. They give you the cheaper price, and then adjust it AFTER the policy is started. So unless all drivers on the policy have an absolutly 100% clean record and have been licensed for more then 3 years this price might not be accurate.
Also, as for the H/O insurance situation on LI.....yes, only a handful of companies are writing policies, and most of them are "non-admitted" in NYS
"Non-admitted" is not a bad thing....an explaination from THIS SITE explains what that means.
And....one more thing....you don't have to have your auto and home insurance with the same company to get an umbrella company. There are companies that will write stand alone umbrella policies.
ETA: I work in an for an insurance broker (not soliciting, just want to clarify how I know the information I typed!)
