Anyone here ever take Imitrex?

I have been a mirgraine sufferer for years. I finally saw my new PCP to get some form of treatment. She prescribed Imitrex. This past Saturday was my first time I needed to take one. It worked wonderfully. My question is can it just push off the headache to only come back? Last night I had to take another one, which worked again. And I am feeling like I need one again.

I have been trying other forms of treatment before "resorting" to the Imitrex. Nothing works, which is why I took the Imitrex.

PS, When I have had a migraine in the past, I would "treat" with sleep (in a dark, quiet room) and they go away after. And RARELY did I have one two days in a row.

I've tried it all for migraines, including Imitrex. I took it in the shot form. It didn't help my migraines at all. If anything, it made me feel worse. The only thing that has ever truly worked for me is Excedrin Migraine. I would call your doctor and see if s/he thinks you should try a different medicine. You can also try taking another dose, as long as they're at least 2 hours apart.

I take Imitrex and it works for me if it is a migraine type headache. None of the over the counter stuff works for me on a migraine.
I've had migraines that go away with the Imitrex BUT the next day I still feel like it might rebound. I rarely have to take another Imitrex though.
If you're getting them alot maybe you need a maintenance type med instead .

I was prescribed Imitrex and filled the prescription about 2 years ago yet it sits in my medicine cabinet untouched. I have read that it causes rebound headaches so I never wanted to get started with it. I typically will take 3 advils (my doc told me that was prescription strength) and then try to relax in a dark room when possible, sometimes I take hot showers and alternate cold blasts on my head. Cold compresses will sometimes help somewhat too.
