Rocking him to sleep

I know I Know I should have listened to my mother..and not do it..But I think its to late now that is the only way Peter will go to sleep for me... OR I lay him in my bed with me until he falls asleep then I put him in his crib.. How do I break this habit? Is that CIO my next step?

We did CIO and it worked. We still rock her until she is kind of sleepy. ( I like rocking her and I read to her) Then while she is still awake we put her in her crib. She cried for a few minutes each night and now she goes right to sleep.

I still rock my son or lay him in the bed till he falls asleep. He is 16 months. I love the bond but I know I need to let him CIO, I just dont think I have the strength for it.

Ditto...we let him CIO if he wakes after we put him in, but we tried CIO in all its forms and modifications and it didnt work. So we just found a way to make bedtime work and we rock him and we ( Dh and I ) found we do love that time together after all. Just hope as he gets older ( he is 19 months) it will lessen.

CIO. Sleeping habits are hard to break, but it's never too late. It's so hard to hear them cry by in 3 days, he'll be over it. You can do it!

We do the same, I will say that we have rocked DS since Day 1 and around 6 months he didnt want to be rocked at all so we started putting him down awake and he would put himself to sleep. Around 10 months we had all sorts of sleep issues so now we have done CIO but only for middle of the night wakings. For now I am okay rocking him to sleep!
