When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

My son is only 1.5 weeks old. Just wondering when you started reading to your little ones (ie before bed). Thanks

When I was pregnant. Once he was born I would read as I nursed him and now we have to stick to board books Chat Icon

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

i read with the fetal monitor and microphone while i was pregnant - there are books that are specifically to be read "in utero"

i also packed several books in my hospital bag and have read to him everyday since - he is 5 weeks old today

Since he was about 5 weeks old......I attempt it after the bottle, but so often he falls asleep so some nights it happens & other nights it doesn't!

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

I try to read one book a day.

None at bedtime. I am saving that for when I wean him from BFing. I will substitute a book (or 2) instead of our nursing session.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

I used to do it when she was really young...and she showed so little interest, or would grab at the books...so I stopped Chat Icon .
I would read to her every so often, or give her a book to play with after that.
Once she turned a year old, we changed her bedtime routine, and I now read her 3 books every night before she goes to sleep. She loves her books...and she kisses them goodnight when I finish each one...Chat Icon

When she was in the womb and I haven't stopped. They are never to young to pick up on your speech patterns and expression. You should start as soon as you can.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

it is NEVER too early to start
as an educator I can tell you that the earlier the better - they love to hear the sound of your voice and the expression

it doesnt matter if they fall asleep; they build up listening stamina

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

We started reading to her when she was tiny, to pass the time before she could really actively play. I say the sooner the better. We read everything to her, the sports section, people magazine. We switched to age appropriate books as she got older.

It is harder now that she is older, she doesn't want to sit still for the story and she wants to turn the pages before we are done with the story.

I read to DD when I was pregnant. I'd read children's books or just a magazine out loud. I did the same after she was born too.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

I started reading to her while I was pg. We would then do a bath and a book every night before bed but we have another one that would just rather flip the pages. So for now we read after dinner but this week has been shapes, colors and pointing out things in the book. She has no interest in stories right now.

I started when she was in utero and as soon as she got home. It's the teacher in me. I still do it.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

We would randomly read to him as our schedule would allow before bed...meaning usually only on the weekends.

Once he went off the PM bottle we changed up the bedtime routine a bit and introduced storytime.

Since then, every night we read two books. Starting with Halloween we began reading holiday books...now we have two Valentine books we read. So we switch it up each month.

If he is having a hard time (hitting, etc) we also incorporate on of those books at night.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

My DD is 5 weeks old and I read her the paper everyday. Not the most upbeat selection, but I figure that she's getting used to my voice, expressions etc and I get to read the paper, so it is killing 2 birds with one stone. I also give her a running commentary on EVERYTHING so that she gets used to the sound of my voice. DH is not allowed to read the paper to DD anymore...he goes off on way too many angry tangents.

Re: When did you start reading to your DS/DD?

When I was pregnant! I had one book I'd read to him specifically, it was a book really talking to them while they were in the womb still....can't think of the name. It was a Dr. Seuss book I think?
