WWYD? Switching Doctors Question (with Poll)

I'm 13 weeks pregnant and only started seeing my current OB once I got pregnant.

(Side Note: My original OB, whom I saw at least 2x a year for 10 years moved away suddenly, with no notification to his patients. I was left scrambling for a new OB once I got pregnant.)

I've had a few appointments already with my current OB. I think he's very nice, and I've heard some good things about him.

However, some of his beliefs don't exactly jive with mine. That being said, after my baby is born, I plan on finding a new doctor.

So here's my question: Should I look for a new OB now and switch a.s.a.p, or should I wait until after this pregnancy to find a new doctor? Is it too late to even consider switching?

If you don't jive with this doctor switch now. It is definetely not too late to switch. I know women who have switched when they were over 30 weeks preggo. Why wait?

It's definetely not too late to switch now, you still have plenty of time.

Start asking around, you may find one easier than you think.

I just wrote a long response and was kicked out when I hit post ... soooooo my point was, I'm still planning on switching at some point after my Level II (which is 3 weeks from tomorrow).

ETA: I was thinking of switching to someone my DH wanted (his friends wives used the Dr and also went to HS with DH's brother) but decided not to go to him because from what a poster on here told me about the Dr, we also did not share beliefs.

I would absolutely switch now. 13 weeks isn't too late at all. I switched at 16w (although that was insurance related). It is so important to have a doctor you like & are comfortable with during pregnancy. You should have someone you see eye to eye with on matters related to your pregnancy & birth experiences.

Switch now. You are going to have so many apts over the preg, you will be happiest if it is with someone you are 100% comfortable and connected with!

Wow. I'm really surprised at all of your responses!! Chat Icon

I was worried about offending my current OB, or having it look bad if I switched.

You all have made me feel so much better about my decision.

Thanks so much!

I too voted to switch (obviously as no one voted you should stay!). I'm sorry you're not happy but like everyone said, you should be and you are no where near too late to change OBs.

My regular dr. retired a few months before I got pregnant so I switched for my first visit and really like my new doctors. There are three in the practice and they are all great. I chose to try them as my sister and SIL use them. If you are looking for referrals... I go to Oakdale OB-GYN and am very pleased.

Good luck!

I switched at 12 weeks. It was the best thing I ever did. You have to be comfortable with your OB, since you're going to be seeing A LOT of him and he's gonna be the one there delivering your baby.

You need a doctor who you trust for you and your baby. 13 weeks isn't too late to switch!
