Re: Why are YOU a good Mom?

No one should feel the need to make a list-thats just the way I think I guess. I'm so new at this and i dreamed of it for so long that I just wanted to see if anyone else had ideas about how I can enrich my boys even more. I mean i think I'm doing a da@n good hjob but there's always room for improvement

Quite honestly, the reason I think I'm a good mom is because I do the best I can everyday.

Same.

Ditto!

Ah child enrichment - that's a whole other thread!

I think being
-not giving them the answers but asking them the questions to see what they think
-letting them learn things on their own versus always showing them the way

off the top of my head.
I go with benign neglect (obviously not in infancy, but toddlerhood). It horrifies some people but really I think it helps them become more self sufficent.

Re: Why are YOU a good Mom?

Hmmm, I have no idea whether or not I'm a good mom. I think time will tell and the person to make that judgment is DD herself. I hope that when she is grown up and someone asks her if she had a good mom she says yes. Until then, I do the best that I can, and hope that it is good enough.

Am I the only one who does not know how to answer this?

I have no clue why *I* am a good mom. Except I love DS with inconditional love. He is my life. I will do everything for him and I am his best advocate.

Re: Why are YOU a good Mom?

I'm a good mommy because...

I can "read" her pretty well. I can calm her down most, if not all the time Chat Icon she hasn't cried (like wailing) in a really long time. She's only fussed.

I think that's my most proudest accomplishment. I hate seeing her cry!

Am I the only one who does not know how to answer this?

Nope.

I think the reason I have so much trouble answering this is that I don't always feel like I am a good mom. Chat Icon

I miss sleeping late. I miss being able to run out and go shopping whenever I have a free moment. I miss Saturday mornings, lounging in bed with DH until noon, realizing that we're doing it just because we can. As much as I love my DD with all of my heart and soul, I miss all of that.

I overcame a lot to be a mom. First it was the infertility. Then it was the excruciatingly painful back injury for the last 30 weeks of my pregnancy. Then it was the fact that after my back surgery, which made me FEEL normal again, I wasn't allowed to lift more than 5 lbs., which meant no holding my own DD, who was just 4 weeks old at the time.

I guess what makes me a good mom is a little different than most of the responses here. It's knowing that when I wanted to down that whole bottle of Vicodin just to have the pain GONE, I didn't...because of that little life growing inside of me. If she hadn't been there...well, I would have been able to seek the treatment I needed much sooner, but...I'm not sure I can honestly say what I would have done...

What makes me a good mom is the fact that I was DETERMINED to make breastfeeding work, even though I was physically UNABLE to sit upright for more than 2 months. The glider in the nursery began to gather dust, while I learned how to nurse on my side in bed--even though the pain in my back was so awful that DH used to bring me a wet washcloth to bite down on.

I guess what makes me a good mom is the fact that I pushed myself to my physical limits when I knew I wasn't supposed to. The fact that I would have my DH hold all of her weight, while propping her up on my shoulder so I could "hold" her just for a few seconds, and actually FEEL like a mom.

I was thinking about this and wanted to get others feedback. I had the night from he!! last night(Declan cried for 3 hours straight and when I finally got him to sleep Ronan woke up and woke him up AGAIN!)

I read to my boys-and buy them new books i think they will like whenever I see them
I pump even when I am traveling(picture me in a car, hand pumping, driving with my knee, sometimes following colleagues to appointments)
I talk to them all day long
I make up silly songs for them
I try to hold them both at one time so no one feels left out.
I love them beyond measureChat Icon

I could use improvement with my frustration when they are fussy. Working on it

I think I'm a good Mom because my daughters both are great Moms. They had to get it from someone!!!!!
