Re: Can Anyone Tell Me About Building Blocks School

I have heard incredible things about this school, Dawn. I know of many students who went, and they have made incredible gains.

I personally have never been to the school or observed there, but I keep hearing good things about it from parents I trust and value highly!

Good luck - FM me if you have any questions regarding the type pf programs you are looking for! Chat Icon

Thank You so much ladies.
EI has mentioned he may qualify to attend there in Sept.
Of course, I want whats best for Bry and I am so glad you both have positive things to say about the school.
EI has been truly amazing with DS and I'd love to see the services continue if possible.
I went to the website real quick.
If I have any questions, I'll keep you both in mind.
Thank You again!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I think he'll be at an age where he is definitley ready to be in a school setting.

I've heard wonderful things but more for kids with delays. Parents I know with kids on the spectrum prefer the YAP program. Depends on you and the child but I would look into as many schools as you can because there are tons out there.

I know teachers that work there, and love it. I know they do home and center based for EI children, they have pre school and SEIT. For ABA programs they have supervisors that create the programs for the children (not just the teachers), a lot of training and support, a team approach.

while I am all for ABA, YAP is very intense and may not provide enough social opportunities for such a young child. I'm not a fan of DDI At all. It depends on what you are looking for though....

I have heard great things about this school. Ryan goes to DDI (which we love), so I can't say from experience, but Building Blocks always has positive reviews from people I have talked to. It is amazing what the school based setting can do. Ryan started in September and he has come so far!

I should clarify - I do like a lot of DDI classes, just not a big fan of their YAP program - I worked in other classes and they were great!!! It depends on the teacher!!!

Re: Can Anyone Tell Me About Building Blocks School

My son is in the Starting Early program and is doing wonderful. Even though he is on the spectrum we felt it was better for him to have more social interaction. I like the program alot but I always wonder if there was something else out there that could have been better for him. I guess as a parent we always wonder and question what is best? I had such a tough time chosing a school so I would take as much advice as you can and explore them all. Good luck!

Re: Can Anyone Tell Me About Building Blocks School

I know this has been out here for a while, but just want to add my .02. We enrolled our son in Building Blocks when he was first diagnosed with ASD. It was probably the biggest waste of his time (almost a year) and we couldn't wait to pull him out of there. We had absolutely wonderful staff come to our home for services, but their on-site program was terrible for him. It will all depend on what kind of help your DS needs. I heard they are terrific for language delays and others not as severe as ASD. We ended up pulling him out and putting him in YAP and it was the best decision we could have made. He soared there. We heard many negative things about the YAP program, but they seemed to all come from teachers outside of the school and it was all hearsay. if your child needs ABA, you can't find a better place. Just please consider what's best for your child and go with your gut.
