Re: Anyone had a needle biopsy?

Yes, very common. I think I read that 85-90% of all biopsies are negative. The odds are with you.

The key is that if you catch something early, you will have the best possible outcome.

I caught something that could have become cancer down the road. They took it out and now I just get followed closely and monitored. It's very scary.

Try not to worry about the what ifs. You can really drive yourself nuts.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. I'm sure it will be fine!Chat Icon

Re: Anyone had a needle biopsy?

i had a need biopsy of my breast as well. I went for my yearly mammo, and they saw a spot. then i went for a sonogram and they said the spot is most likely benign, but being that my mother passed away from breast cancer, i had the spot biopsied. It was completly benign. Was i scared out of my mind? yes, but as the pp said, the odds are with you that its nothing.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone had a needle biopsy?

Thanks. It just makes me nervous because ive had lumpy breast tissue for years. Have gone for several ultrasounds and its always just been fibrocystic i guess? But, now the surgeon feels like they should do a biopsy to confirm that its this and nothing else. I mean, if it was something really bad, i feel like 5 years later , i would be sick right?

I had the same situation- I've got very cystic breasts and have been sent for needle biopsies in both breasts.

Re: Anyone had a needle biopsy?

My mom just had it done last week. She has very cystic breasts and they saw something on the sonogram and wanted a needle biopsy done. From what she said the actual procedure wasnt too bad. It was after that she was uncomfortable and felt some discomfort. She had it done a week ago and is fine now but her breast is still very bruised. Thankfully, all tests came back ok.

Re: Anyone had a needle biopsy?

I just had it done a few weeks ago. I had a needle core biopsy guided by ultrasound.

It ended up being benign. TG! A mass showed on both the mammogram and ultrasound. I still have to go back in 6 months for another test to make sure nothing changed.

After the biopsy, they put steristrips on it. I was not allowed to carry anything heavy for the first 48 hours. No bath or swimming for 1 week.

They did put a metal clip in it as a marker for future test.
