Re: Chantix ?
I haven't taken it and I don't know anyone personally who has taken it, but I remember reading a pretty scary article in New York magazine a while back. The author of the article documented his experience on it and it was not good - hallucinations, thoughts of suicide, bad mood changes, etc. Basically bad news for him. Here is the link to the article:

Re: Chantix ?
Dh's best friend and his wife took it. He said she had horrible graphic nightmares and he actually felt suicidal and like he wanted to kill someone. I have not taken it. but that was enough for me to say uhhh NO.

Re: Chantix ?
My job has gone smoke free and I get it for free. I took it for a few days but 20 minutes after i took it I would get ill and throw up. Didn't work for me unfortunately, I was really hoping it would, but running to the bathroom 20 minutes after I took the pill wasn't working out for me at all.

My brother and is wife took it. They said similiar things. It also made them feel bipolar. They discontinued it after like a month or so and are still smoking.

Re: Chantix ?
DH took it, had no horrible side effects, and hasn't had a cigarette in 16 months.
However, it became a banned substance at his job after he took it because of all the reported side effects.

Re: Chantix ?
FH used it. It worked pretty well. But then he started experiencing the depressing side effects and had to stop. He told me one day he just felt like driving his truck into a tree After that, he stopped. Now he is going to start Wellbutrin.

Re: Chantix ?
My friend took it for about 3 months. She has now stopped taking it. HORRID mood swing. Wicked nightmares. Not so hot thoughts in her head. She has tried cold turkey, the pills just messed her up.

Re: Chantix ?
I quit smoking 2 years ago, May 4th, using Chantix. It cost me, I believe about $150, a lot less than cigarettes cost! The only reason you have such graphic dreams is because of the nicotine withdrawal. A lot of the symptoms that people reported are also associated with nicotine withdrawal with or without the Chantix. To me, it was a miracle drug. I started taking it and by day 6 I was done smoking.
Best of luck to your DH!!

Re: Chantix ?
I didn't take it. I'm using the patch now. So far so good. I smoked between 15-20 cigs a day and with the patch I have been smoke free for 6 days so far. It hasn't been as bad as I though it would be.
I got the patches for free from the 311 number. Your DH should call. Good Luck to him. It's such a hard habit to break but I know it can be done.

Re: Chantix ?
I'm a Pharm Tech. If your insurance does not cover it, it's around $130-150, I don't rememer what the exact cost. If you have to pay on your own, call around different pharmacies for pricing. Also, ask your MD if they have some coupons. Some insurance pays for it but it depends on your coverage. I always tell our customers to call their insurance if they want to know if a particular med. is covered and how much their co-pay will be.

Re: Chantix ?
i know it is not covered already but i think dishing out the cash for it is well worth it & will end up being cheaper than what he spends on cigs in a month...

Re: Chantix ?
I took the generic form of Zyban. I think it was called Bupropion and my insurance did cover it. I would definitely recommend it, I've been smoke free for over a year now. The only side effect I had was a bit of dry mouth.
