Hyland's teething tablets

My DS will be 5 months next week. He is has been SOOOO cranky the past couple of days. I really think that he is teething. He was up EIGHT times last night. This was a baby who was sleeping through the night since 6 weeks old. Has anyone tried the hyland;s teething tablets? Do they work? Anything else that I can try? TIA!!!

Re: Hyland's teething tablets

They seem to be working really well for my DD. She is 7 mos but has been using them since 4 mos. She doesn't like teething rings much, but she LOVES when I take a washcloth, wet it, ring it out, and then throw it in the freezer. Once it freezes, she chews on that and seems to be content. Good luck!Chat Icon

Re: Hyland's teething tablets

I use humphries and I think it helps take the edge off. DS was sleeping through the night and is now waking up twice a night. When I give him the humphries it seems to calm him down.

Re: Hyland's teething tablets

I swear by them. Just be careful to stick to the label recommendations as it has Belladonna in it which is a natural sedative.

Ditto. I'm always very cautious with them for that reason.

Re: Hyland's teething tablets

Honestly, I would not use them. I know some people who have, and they seem to work well, but it bothers me that they have belladonna in them. It just seems like it's not worth it. Here is some info on belladonna. It's a little scary. (It's commonly known as deadly nightshade! OYE!)
"Belladonna is one of the most toxic plants found in the Western hemisphere. All parts of the plant contain tropane alkaloids.[13] The berries pose the greatest danger to children because they look attractive and have a somewhat sweet taste.[12] The consumption of two to five berries by children and ten to twenty berries by adults can be lethal. The root of the plant is generally the most toxic part, though this can vary from one specimen to another. Ingestion of a single leaf of the plant can be fatal to an adult.
There is currently insufficient scientific evidence to recommend the use of A. belladonna in its natural form for any condition,[14] although some of its components, in particular l-atropine which was purified from belladona in the 1830s, have accepted medical uses.[16] Donnatal is a a prescription pharmaceutical, approved in the United States by the FDA, that combines natural belladonna alkaloids in a specific, fixed ratio with phenobarbital to provide peripheral anticholinergic/antispasmodic action and mild sedation. According to its labeling, it is possibly effective for use as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (irritable colon, spastic colon, mucous colitis) and acute enterocolitis."

I don't want to scare anyone, I just thought it would be helpful to know.

Re: Hyland's teething tablets

They've really helped DS sleep at night when in pain. I checked with my ped. and she said it was totally fine to give it to DS.
